especially on a Sunday. Do you go to out of hours GP? Ive been coughing non stop for a few hours now, before it was just a normal bad cough. Ive never really gone to GP for a cough before, but its getting really bad

DS went to the Dr with a horrible cough and high temperature. They advised us to give him calpol and hot fruit juice. I have never heard of that helping but we did it anyway and his cough was virtually gone within 2 days. I will definately be doing that next time too.

COuld be a chest infection.
I would go to out of hours for some ABs.
Hope you are better soon

you can have paracetamol and hot fruit drink. Then you can have something a little stronger if you like

Quootiepie · 10/12/2006 15:06

It will probably make you feel so sick, you forget all about the cough!

MerryMellowmas · 10/12/2006 15:08

Have your tried the couch medicine Cavonia. My MIL swears by it, it puts a coating on the throat. Dh had to have some last night. I hate Big Men Coughs

Quootiepie · 10/12/2006 15:10

im BFing, not sure what I can take. Its the mother of all coughs... I keep nearly throwing up with it! Got my dettol to hand to spray everything I touch

Watch it doesn't go into your chest. It sounds a bit like thats where it is heading if it is making you sick.

If you don't call GP today and it is still same tomorrow you should visit them, just to have it checked.

Quootiepie · 10/12/2006 15:17

is it too small to ring out of hours GP?

If you feel it is in your chest quootie, call them.

I called them out for chest inefction for dh before. He was DYING of course

Definitely salt gargle and if you have any, some chocolate, just chocolate, not mixed with anything else. It does help apparently. I would take Corvonia as well if you can whilst BF, the nighttime one is particularly helpful.

saadia · 10/12/2006 20:01

I always warm up a spoon of honey and sprinkle some black pepper on top - helps for a while. I've never actually benefitted from cough medicine.

Quootiepie · 10/12/2006 20:05

its quite late now... not get any better, but I think its not serious enough for out of hours GP. DH has had a drink now aswell, so cant really get anything for it oh well!

Pholcodine.
You get it from the chemist, only about £1.70.
It suppresses the cough, so only use at night for a night's sleep, but it really works (temporarily - it won't cure it).

I had an evil cough a couple of years ago.

Probably should have had Anti~Bs as was coughing up vile stuff for a couple of weeks, but dont like abs so got some Pullmo Baily (sp) medicine.

Even on the adverts for it they say it tastes foul! It was really bad to drink (you mix it with water) but it sorted the cough pronto!!

I think it's an old fashioned remedy, but would reccomend it very highly.[smil]
