ds 4yrs is absolutely fine during the day but at night is awake for hrs with earache. This is 3rd or 4th night now(have lost count I'm so tired.
Paracetamol doesn't help much ,and he can't have brufen because he's asthmatic and it makes him wheezy.
Anyway as it's been a few days now do you think it warrants a visit to GP.I'm presuming it's a viral infection as he's fine during the day,but am unsure now.

its not unusual for symptoms to be worst at night as pressure in the eustachian tube builds up, it could also be glue ear rather than an infection, i would go to the doctors though as they will be able to tell, has he a temp?

Thanks for your replies,I'll make an appt with the GP tomorrow if he is awake all night again.
He doesn't have fever, seems fine during the day.

DS (1yr old) is currently on his third ear infection in 1 and a half months. He has had anti biotics and ear drops for the first 2 and for this 3rd one (just coming to an end) he has been given extra strength anti biotics and no drops. I suspect he will be prone to them for a few years and will then grow out of them.

I will however rush him straight to the Dr's each time because some ear infections can cause deafness and I just won't risk it (this happened in our family).

Hope it passes soon for you.

I would go to the gp. I took dd on Thursday and dr said 50% are viral and 50% bacterial so half will clear up without antibiotics and half won't. He gave us them but since she was a lot better 24 hours later I didn't bother giving them to her and she's fine now.

Thanks ladies, intersting about the 50% www,I always thought they were mostly viral like colds.
