im quite worried about my neice, she's just failed her 8 month assessment, and has been referred to the hospital. after she was born, the midwives said she had ' frog leg' it was as if she was breach and her legs seemed to splay at the hips.
10 months on, she's still the same, she's a lovely chubby baby but she makes no attempt to stand or put her weight onto her feet. also, she doe'snt really show a lot of interest in toys, and did'nt pass them from one hand to another like they usually do. when she's lying on her front, she does'nt lift her head up to look around, she just looks to the side. she does'nt roll over like babies usually do, although she does kick her legs and wiggle her feet. she doesnt seem to reach for things like babies usually do, just sits there quietly on her mums knee with hands usually just at her sides like a rag doll. she does smile, but did'nt do so till later than most. has anyone else had similar experience to this?

Hi Bubbly. How is your niece's eyesight? Which part of the 8 month assessment did she fail?

bubblepop, I would be less worried by the leg thing than the rest, to be honest! It is quite normal for a 10 month old baby not to stand or walk yet, but a little concerning that she doesn't lift her head if put on her front, or play with toys. Having said that, there are children who are slow to develop, but get there in the end. Sounds like it's reasonable to refer her to the hospital for assessment.

Hi if you'd like advice on the hip problem I'd recommend this site they have a forum that covers all lower limb conditions (my ds2 has talipes aka clubbedfeet and I've found it a god send) don't know about the other worries but maybe if she's in discomfort with her hips then it's stopping her development.
Good Luck with it I hope she's Ok
