PERIOD QUESTION..... SORRY BIT GRAPHIC

jampot · 15/05/2004 13:39

I have started my period after just 3 weeks which is not the norm but not completely unheard of for me. However, it seems to be very heavy with quite a bit of flooding and an awful lot of (don't read on it you're squeamish) "bramble jelly". I usually have to use night time long sanitary towels to make sure there are no leakages but this time, doesn't seem long enough it almost seems as if my rear end is menstruating too. Has anyone else had this?
PS: not the reason I'm called Jampot

I can't help you but I am going to have to throw out all my home made bramble jelly...

If this is not the norm for you, you should probably visit/phone your GP just to be on the safe side.

I have endometriosis and often get this.Have you had any pain?

jampot · 15/05/2004 16:04

On day 1 I do usually get a low down ache but I have also felt an "achey" type of feeling into my thighs a bit like labour (obviously not as intense). The pain is by no means unbearable.

jampot · 15/05/2004 16:04

What other symptoms are there of endometriosis?

noddy5 · 15/05/2004 16:09

I get the pain in my thighs too.My pain was bearable to start with and now it is slightly worse but it varies from month to month and I have chosen not to have treatment while I can tolerate it.However I do get v tired if I've had a bad month and I also get labour type pains when I hAVE a poo(sorry!).

Pacific · 15/05/2004 16:15

Jampot, how old are you?

Chocol8 · 15/05/2004 16:35

Jampot...you made me splutter my tea with your PS!!! :0

I would get it checked out if I were you, it may just be a one off hopefully. It must be very alarming. (((((Menstrual hug))))) x

prettycandles · 15/05/2004 16:37

Do you sleep on your back? I cannot during the first 3-4 nights of my period, else I leak 'backwards' too. Perhaps, if the pattern of your periods has changed, you are bleeding more heavily at night than you are used to, and it would help if you slept on your side?

What you describe is similar to the sorts of periods I had between babies, and it seemed to become my new norm. I understood it to be because my fibroid (that I must have developed shortly before my first pregnancy) had grown very large during pregnancy and was causing the heavy bleeding. After my second pregnancy the fibroid shifted position, and my periods are IIRC actually lighter than pre-babies. HTH!

Hey, my surname's Bramble. Do I get chucked out of Mumsnet too??

carla · 15/05/2004 16:47

BTW, are you convinced it's associated with your period?

carla · 15/05/2004 16:52

Used to get loads of 'liver'y bits. Think that's normal.

amess · 15/05/2004 17:16

I have this type jampot, glad to hear someone else does too. Often find really heavy one month and then lighter next month and so on. When it first started happening I felt as if my insides were coming out and used to get quite worried but now it's the norm. Doesn't pain with heavy periods but v v moody very!!

jampot · 15/05/2004 17:24

I'm so glad I'm not the only one - have been worried about posting this on here as there is no nice way to describe flow or indeed whether I am so abnormal I will disgust! Sorry if I have disgusted anyone.

jampot · 15/05/2004 17:25

BTW I'm 35 - I also seem to poo a lot during the first couple of days - maybe I should be "Jampoo".

noddy5 · 15/05/2004 17:30

jampot exactly like me ! Often have to run to the loo in a hurry too!How nice to share this lovely info

jampot · 15/05/2004 17:31

I really feel now like I cannot EVER go to a meet up! I was very interested in the mooncup/keeper thing but am worried that it wouldn't be able to cope!

Chocol8 · 15/05/2004 18:01

Periods are just part of the delightful package of being a fully paid up memeber of the fairer sex - it's quite refreshing to talk on-line about it tbh!

About the poo thing - I am glad that I am not the only one who does that! Also seem to pass more stinky wind (Jamfarting if you like) too, my friend and I call them "period farts". Mmmm, you're right Jampot, not sure about ever going on a meet up now either!

coppertop · 15/05/2004 18:03

I know I shouldn't but ROFL at this thread! I take it you lot won't be rollerblading by while wearing white trousers?

Flip · 15/05/2004 18:19
  • I've had the jelly stuff since ds2. It started straight after I'd had him and the midwife said that there was probably somewhere it was pooling inside and then came out when it got to heavy. Nice!
susanmt · 15/05/2004 20:59

Jampot I get the same heavy, clotty period that you are referring to. I was worried about a mooncup but tried one last month for the first time and it coped great, far better than I ever have with any other protection.

But it would be your personal jampot

YUK!

Chocol8 · 15/05/2004 23:04

Ooh, I am dim - what is a mooncup please? It kind of conjuers up a picture but not sure I am right!

How does it work and where do you get them from? (Sorry to be thick)

gothicmama · 16/05/2004 13:15

from previous thread you can buy moon cups here

Chocol8 · 16/05/2004 14:50

Thanks Gothicmama - are they really as good as they seem? Though if I got one, I am not sure I would do as they suggest and pop it in the dishwasher! Urghhhh!

gothicmama · 16/05/2004 15:56

Have not got one but considering it - much more environmentally friendly - do not think I would pop it in dishwasher (well have not got one except Dh and it sounds gross) should think you can just wash and go so to speak . Are you going to get one Choco8 (love the name)

Chocol8 · 16/05/2004 18:16

Mmmm, it looks tempting I must admit - well not the actual item, that looks a bit gross, but the idea appeals. I have very heavy periods since about a year ago which only last 3 days, but the pain and yuech and my ds saying "what's that in your pants Mummy, blood???" well...that would be gone forever! Yayyy! What a lovely thought!

Thanks, though I feel since joining Weight Watchers, it is not a very apt name, but actually I think Coppertop (sorry Coppertop, I am not stealing your name, honest) would suit me better. Yours is pretty cool too.

Where's Jampot/poo/fart gone? Jampot come back, we're not grossed out with your bramble jelly, honest - wretch
