my 15 week old ds2 has had bronchiolitis for over a week now -he's definitely over the worst - he was in hospital over the weekend on oxygen and nebs but he's still not feeding. he's about 15lbs 6oz and bottlefed so should be having about 35oz but he's only had a maximum of 23oz since it all started. he's still wheezy and coughing but i dont know what to do about the feeding? he's just spitting it out and crying? any ideas?

Ellanatal, so sorry to hear about your ds, my DD was in hospital for 10 days with it when she was 10 days old, so i feel for you. Don't know about feeding, could be having trouble with mucus perhaps. Take him to the docs? Will keep this bumped in case anyone can help.

How much are you feeding him ? Little and often helped dd when she had it, just a little every hour or two. She was b'fed but I had to express and use a bottle to make it less energy consuming for her and even then it took over 40 minutes to get a couple of ounces down. 35oz sounds a lot anyway but if he is getting dehydrated by having less then go back to the dr.

ellanatal, know what your goin thru, been there with my ds2 when he was 6 weeks old, he was in hospital for a week.
if i was in your shoes, i would ring the childrens ward for advice, did they give you a number when you left the ward? if he is taking smaller feeds than usual thats not too bad, just offer more frequently. if he stops feeding altogether than i would be really worried. again, don't mean to alarm you but you really need to check again with the doctor for advice, don't be afraid of being pushy.

thanks for all the advice! the consultant that saw him in the hospital told me he should be on 35oz a day - he's a big lad for 15 weeks - probably about 15 1/2 lbs!he also said that as long as he was taking over 20oz i shouldnt worry but that was 4 days ago - ds2 seems permanently hungry but then refuses to take the milk! think he's got some in built device that stops when he's had 4 oz and refuses any more! off to pick my other kids up now - maybe i'll try to get him to take more when we get back!

p.s - i know this is more for the feeding threads but its not a normal feeding prob!well i hope it doesnt continue - i'm knackered!
