viral wheeze

hello, I have a 23 month old little boy who has had 5 inccidents of a viral wheeze in the last year. Just reacently this has resulted in us having to be admitted over night in hospital. The symptoms he shows are the same as an asmatic wheeze but i am convinced it is not full blown asthma. Has anyone else experienced this with there children and does any one think it might be to do with teething? Have your children grown out of it?

Yes my DS gets bronchiolitis, he was 17 months when he got his first attack which was the worst, he's now 30 months. He was clear over the summer but now that the virus season is back he's had it again.

He was hospitalised for 4 days the first time and on oxygen; the GP I took him to said he was having an asthma attack and I had to go straight to hopsital, scared the crap out of me! Stupid to tell me he had asthma, which isn't diagnosed till they've had at least 3 attacks and usually not till the child is older, as when they're this age it's often just bronchiolitis (airways too small to cope witht he mucus, usually apparently is gone by about 2 years old ish).

DS doesn't get nearly so much of a problem with shortness of breath now, last time he had it (about 3 weeks ago) he had non-stop coughing instead, but I got a syrup from the pharmacy that helped with that. The doctors here (I'm in France) always prescribe a raft of stuff including oral steriods, and I rarely use any of it. IT's just a wee cold most of the time.

Don't think it's related to teething, but I also don't think my ds is really asthmatic. hth.

My ds (21 months) first started wheezing about 8 months ago when he had a virus and was admitted to hospital. The hospital gave him a prescription of inhalers. Since then he has had it several times when he has a virus, the last time being this week but we now have the inhalers to hand so can control it, he has not been back to hospital since. The doctors have told me he should grow out of it but sometimes it can change into full blown asthma. It has nothing to do with teething it is just the body's way of trying to fight the virus (so I was told by the doc on friday).
