awful pmt - awful skin - pill??

I have been on citalopram for pmt, but hated the way it made me feel the rest of the time. It also seemed to lead to me putting on a lot of weight.

I stopped months ago, and have felt a lot better in myself, but the pmt is coming back, I can't shift the weight and on top of this I have horrendous painful acne.

I am 46, when was younger (20s) I was on Dianette for pcos, I haven't taken the pill since - would the pill help with skin and pmt? I saw a gp about the pmt and feeling really tired, they did a thyroid test and checked for anaemia - both fine. They said it was the beginning of the menopause (I am still having periods) and maybe go back on citalopram. - which I don't want to do.

Any thoughts?

I know nothing about citalopram so can't advise on that.

However I am a similar age and have bad skint. I used to take Dianette which worked liked a charm for my skin. After a blood condition diagnosis (and two dvts related to it) gp would no longer prescribe it.

Eventually I saw a dermatologist who specialises in acne. Brilliant. She was very interested on helping me out despite my skin being not that bad when she saw me.

The solution for me is Spironolactone. It acts in a similar way to Dianette in that it suppresses the androgen, then reducing oiliness of the skin.

Since I started taking it in March I have had about four spots. Good huh? hope I haven't jinxed things now.

It is quite a serious drug and I have to have a blood test for liver function every few months but I love it. I wish I had been treated for acne this well when I was a teen rather than suffering for 30 years.

Thankyou.

I know nothing about that medication so will ask.

Citalopram is an anti depressant - my pmt brings on a really low mood (as well as bloating, headaches and awful skin!) and it worked really well for that.

As a teen I was given just about everything available for my skin, but nothing really made a difference. Between my late 20s and now it has been loads better, with occasional flare ups, but now it is just awful.
