This is the first day I've been migraine free for weeks

I had to go into to hospital last weekend as symptoms were so bad. I now have a diagnosis of hemiplegic migraine. Any other migraine sufferers out there?

I've booked a follow-up appointment with the National Migraine Centre in a few weeks time so fingers crossed they'll find an answer this time... What treatment have they given you?

I haven't started any treatment yet. Consultant told me that paracetamol is better than ibuprofen, which was news to me. I guess it might also be safer to take long term, can anyone confirm that? Have to say that neither paracetamol not ibuprofen seem to do anything for me. I've been suffering with this for years, it's a huge burden isn't it?

Yes it's horrible. I take either 900mg aspirin or 800mg ibuprofen in the early stages and then move on to zolmitriptan if that hasn't worked. I asked a pharmacist the other day if it was a problem to take so many drugs but he said as long as I eat food with the ibuprofen I'm okay! I'm not convinced though....

The key with migraine (and I'm dreadful for not following my own advice) is to take the meds the moment you get one-sided headache. What I do (idiot) is think 'uh-oh, that's familiar. Oh don't be so ridiculous. You can't have so many migraines in each month. I must be exaggerating. It's probably just a headache. Stop being such a melodramatic wally....oh this is hanging on now.....erghh the nausea; what's that smell; why are the children SHOUTING so much, and why isn't DH telling them not to shout? Oh. It's because I've got a migraine and they're not really shouting :("

By then, my stomach has well and truly gone into stasis and the rescue meds don't have a hope of working.

900mg of aspirin along with a glass of coke is apparently as good as any triptan. I take a small cocktail of drugs as prevention and still get them far too frequently.

Aspirin and paracetamol are best for me. Last year I was given a prescription for sumatriptan, but it did nothing that's when I heard about aspirin.

Having said that sometimes the migraine trigger means the drugs don't work for me. Certain sweets, MSG are shockers for me and tablets don't help.

I get on average 12 per month. Rizatriptan was the only thing worked but now that too has stopped helping.

My last migraine held on for 9 days. I have now been referred to a neurologist and am seeing him.next month.

my old remedy was to eat feverfew leaves - which still helps. But I have a new one-magnesium citrate plus vit d, b2, and high concentrate c powder.

Can I recommend the ihmf (international hemiplegic migraine foundation) they can be found on facebook and are a wonderful group of people.

I have a diagnosis of chronic migraine with aura and Hemiplegic Migraine. I had back to back migraine for nearly 3 years and it's only recently cut down to once or twice a week. Hoping for once a month eventually.

Be careful of the 900mg of aspirin trick if you're a chronic migrainer as you can end up giving yourself gastritis and/or an ulcer

Sorry just seen your paracetamol comment and yes that's right. Opiates and nsaids aren't that good for migraine, in fact opiates can make them worse and prolong them.
