Hand Foot and Mouth disease and pregnant women

my dd2 has hand foot and mouth disease

im supposed to be going to visit my friend at the weekend who is pregnant, im not taking dd2, but is it safe for me to go or is there a chance she could catch it from me?

dd1 had it 2 yrs ago and i didnt catch it from her so i dont think i have to virus

I'm trying to remember - dd has this last year, and my friend had her dd2 at around the same time. The worry was that if her dd1 had caught it, would it be dangerous? I think the midwives said that it would not do a baby any harm, just be a bit of a rash etc. This was obviously with a newborn rather than a baby not yet born, but it suggests that maybe it is not harmful?! ANyone else?

My ds had it when I was about 14 weeks preg I went to the docs and he looked at me like I was mad when I asked if I should be concerned about it! But I had seen some websites mention it as a risk factor (vvvv slight) for under 12 weeks preg.

Boys are more prone to it than girls(though my dh got it which is very rare - and rather embarassing for him) so I wouldn't worry about it - If you are concerned then speak to your friend before you visit but if she is beyond first tri-mester there really isn't a problem.

on nhs direct, it says incubation period 3-6 days. thats before the weekend then
