Do you think my ovarian cyst has burst?

I was diagnosed with cysts about 3 weeks ago after blood test showed anemia, probably due to heavy periods. I have a gynaecological referral and the appointment is next week. I am taking iron tablets. I am halfway through my cycle and for 3/4 days I have had a discharge like ovulation mucus, but streaked with brown, like old blood. I have also felt faint a few times this week and today had period like pain and back ache. Do you think one of the cysts may have burst? And as I don't have extreme pain or bleeding should I just wait until the appointment next week or is that a risk? I am alone with 2 DC btw and there isn't an A&E for 20 miles. Thank you everyone!

Trouble is, this is one of those things that noone can tell you over the internet. If a cyst has burst, it doesnt matter in the slightest, but it could be any number of things that are more urgent. Sorry thats not helpful, but its not really safe for anyone to tell you you are fine, even though you probably are.

Spot on wildfire

Good luck, OP, but please get diagnosed by a professional.

Yeah I realise that really but I guess I was hoping someone would tell me it's all coincidence and that I could wait until tomorrow night when DH is back and it's just more convenient to be ill! I don't feel that bad and don't want to waste doctor's time.

I really think you'd KNOW all about it if it burst...I had big OC removed in my 20s.....id get very bad stabbing pains....you'd have a lot of those if it was close to bursting or even if it were sizeable....I imagine a bursting OC would at the very least land you with a fever....but im not a doctor so....just trying to reassure you.

Go to doctor but don't panic

Difficult to say. But you have a Gyne appointment next week and the NHS Choices website says you only need to go to A&E if in acute pain. So I'm sure you're safe to wait until you're seen by a specialist.

I was bluelighted to hospital in the most extreme pain I have EVER experienced when my ovarian cysts burst and was in hospital for 4 days on morphine..(I've had four children, 3 without pain relief).....so in my experience it doesn't sound like it is - but equally, I'm not a medical professional....so if you are worried phone the out of hours number to speak to someone.

Its possible, however I have had three ovarian cysts that I have burst and they have each been the most intense pain that I have ever felt, morphine didn't even help. I think it is worth it to get this checked out as soon as possible.

Thanks everyone. All symptoms stopped on Friday and have been fine, just knackered. I do have a high pain threshold but still don't think it was bad enough for A&E. Will see what they say this week.
