Opting out of vaccinations. Is this normal?

CarmenMonoxide · 01/10/2015 09:44

My dd had a fairly long absence from school due to ilness last year.
Apparently during this time her year had the cervical cancer vaccination.
she has told me they are having phase 2 next week and her name is down on the list for having it. I have to write a letter if she isn't having it.
I thought you had to give consent for it, not the other way around?

I would have thought it was normal. As the vast majority of children are vaccinated it would be a huge admin job to have to get consent and lots would probably miss out (those ones whose parents can't even get it together to RSVP to a party invite wouldn't stand a chance). Much easier to make the few who object to their daughters being protected from cervical cancer contact the school and let them know it.

ScienceBased · 02/10/2015 10:39

Hi Carmen,

It is not widely publicised, but the fact is from a legal standpoint, consent for this vaccine lies with your daughter, not you. This was quietly pushed through as law recently.

If this worries you, it should. Children are not permitted to give consent to invasive medical procedures (which is what a vaccination is) for very good reason. Further, the HPV vaccine has not been proven to prevent a single case of cancer, whilst reports of very serious side effects are extremely high.

Please research the UK Association of HPV Vaccine Injured Daughters (AHVID) and see this leaflet that they are currently sending out to schools.

I concur with the above re the HPV vaccine. My daughter had it in January (2nd dose) and now has epilepsy, cognitive dysfunction, hand tremors, balance issues, etc. The research I have done would frighten you. There are many reports of side effects. If your daughter is one of the very few to become ill , my experience is that most doctors are at a loss about this. There is no training for vaccine injury. The effects are nervous system based so can affect any organ run by the autonomic system (digestive, urinary, balance, brain) and can take months to appear. But there is help via Sanevax.org. Please please stay well away from this vaccine

CoteDAzur · 02/10/2015 11:10

"the HPV vaccine has not been proven to prevent a single case of cancer"

How could that ever have been proven? Confused

jorahmormont · 02/10/2015 11:10

The consent for this should lie with your DD really, if she is old enough for the HPV jab she is old enough to make the decision for herself. I don't know of anyone in real life who has had any negative side effects from the vaccine other than a sore arm afterwards.

didyouwritethe · 02/10/2015 11:13

Write the letter and explain to her why she's not to have it. Plenty of girls don't - she won't be the only one. They may well put pressure on her to have it, though, so she'll have to be ready for some aggro. She can always say that because she has been ill, if she did decide to have the vaccine, she would have it done by her GP not the school nurse. This is much better practice in any case.

KevinAndMe · 02/10/2015 11:14

Unfortunately this is right. Your dd is seen as being too young to agree to have an invasive medical procedure or having a tatoo but she us the old enough to decide to get a vaccine Hmm
There also has been some talks about the fact the nurses are pushing them a lot to have it if they are saying NO. Which is very hard for a 12~14yo to do when they have someone of authority in front of them....

YetAnotherUserName · 02/10/2015 11:18

My DD is in yr 8, so has just had the first round of the HPV. We and she, had to sign a form to give consent - but there was an equal part of the form where we all would have signed to deny consent. So I guess they want confirmation of whichever way you decide.

didyouwritethe · 02/10/2015 11:58

I wonder how school nurses get their heads round bullying children in this way.

KevinAndMe · 02/10/2015 12:30

Because they will believe that vacinations ARE the best thing to do, very simply. So it's not so much bullying than very firm insistence for something they think is THE right thing todo because they have THE response to a specific issue (in that case cervical cancer).

The fact that not everyone agrees or that x child shouldn't do it for their own health reasons or that it should be surpervised by a GP/consultant etc... won't go in there because 'its a life saving vaccination with no or little side effects'.

I don't agree with this approach but when you really beleive that what yoou do is the best way to do thing, the line between trying to convince someone and bullying is very fine indeed.

didyouwritethe · 02/10/2015 13:30

How on earth do they convince themselves though? I know they have masses of vaccinations themselves, as part of their jobs, so I suppose that is a big part of it. If you work in that sector, you have to take the medicine. Confused And make everyone else do the same.

JoeyRead · 02/10/2015 14:29

Be very careful with this vaccine and please research first. My friend's daughter started having brain seizures after it, as does a girl who used to work for me ' coincidences' the drs said. I have another friend with a daughter with severe kidney problems post Hpv gardasil vaccine. Another coincidence.....

JoeyRead · 02/10/2015 14:35

Mums you might want to look up Sanevax Uk which has hundreds of parents of Gardasil injured girls as members. Also look up Gardasil Syndrome. Needless to say I didn't let my daughter have it and nor did her friend whose grandad is a surgeon.... Consider before consent . Google The Independent newspaper which had a front page spread about sick girls a few months ago. Please please research first before you give your consent. You can always vaccinate later but you can't unvaccinate

CoteDAzur · 02/10/2015 14:55

Welcome to MN, Joey.

didyouwritethe · 02/10/2015 15:20

Joey, could you link to that Independent article? I could only find this:

ScienceBased · 02/10/2015 15:30

Be sure to read the many reader comments on the Independent article too!

JoeyRead · 02/10/2015 15:46

Thank you ScienceBased and so sorry to hear about your daughter minpin that is terrible. Can you tell me more please if you don't mind I'm sure it must be very upsetting for you x

OddlyLogical · 02/10/2015 15:48

I would also look up the link between HPV and PoTS

If I had daughters, I would wait until they were older. It needs to be given before they are sexually active so it can wait in most cases.

didyouwritethe · 02/10/2015 16:18

Thanks, Science. So sorry about your dd, Minpin. Sad

JeanFreda · 02/10/2015 17:28

If your daughter is ill following the first Gardasil vaccination then it would be unwise to let her have the second. You must inform the school of this change as you will have consented to both jabs. Let them know please that she is unwell, put it in writing and make sure the nurse and your head teacher gets a copy. If a child's immune system is compromised in any way they should not be subjected to another jab. Hope her health improves.

howabout · 02/10/2015 17:35

We had a consent form (last year in Scotland which is a different legal system). There was no problem with school when I declined but a lot of peer pressure. Be sure to discuss your concerns with your dd so she is informed.

JeanFreda · 02/10/2015 17:39

Sadly there are many young girls throughout the UK who are having serious adverse reactions to the HPV vaccine. They have not only lost their health but also much of their education. They were once fine, healthy girls with so much to live for and now they are former shadows of themselves. This is also happening worldwide where the HPV vaccines are administered - cannot be regarded as a coincidence. So UK girls, French girls, Canadian girls, American boys and girls, girls from Colombia, Australia, Ireland and more and more countries are all suffering serious health issues following this vaccination. That is strange surely and many were also very sporty, active, loved dancing prior to vaccination - now they have lost all of that. Yes please do look at www.sanevax.org and under victims you will read so many stories from many countries. Also see the press release of our UK Association of HPV Vaccine Injured Daughters (AHVID) - sanevax.org/uk-association-of-hpv-vaccine-injured-daughters-ahvid/
What has to be remembered is these families worldwide are not anti-vaccine as their children have been inoculated all of their lives - if they had been anti-vaccine they would not have had the HPV vaccine. They sadly have reacted badly to it and that is why we have to raise awareness that these lovely young girls have become so ill following this particular vaccine - many have been ill here in the UK since 2009 - that in itself is not natural or normal.
