Dental flare up - is it worth taking antibiotics?

I had a re-RCT about 5 days ago which the dentist did as he suspected a small crack in the root of a tooth I had done years ago. I have RCTs in all three of those front teeth (lower left) and after he had done it he took another x ray and said he wasn't sure if it was that tooth after all, as there was a tiny area around the next tooth which could be normal or could mean it was that one causing me bother.

The temp dressing he put in a few weeks ago in the LL1 seemed to help a bit (I wasn't in a lot of pain, just niggling really) but now post-RCT it is flaring again and hurting a bit more. I've tapped them and think it is the one he just worked on, though I can't be sure.

He said if it is a different one he'd have to refer me for an apicoectomy however they may refuse as they don't think it will last very long/have a great chance of success.

What should I do in the interim? I have a script for amoxy which he gave me a month or so ago and I didn't have to take as it didn't get too bad.

Will this help if there is a bit of infection in the jaw or is it a waste of time? I can't take metronidazole as it makes me feel really ill, but I'm not sure if amoxycillin is going to actually get in there iyswim.

Grateful for any advice that means I don't have to bother the poor chap again.
