Plantar fasciitis footwear recommendations

My heel has been getting progressively worse for the last 2-3 weeks, so bad this week that I'm hobbling all day. Fitflops have been a lifesaver but it's getting a bit cold now for bare feet!
I've tried a few styles of Fitflop boots but didn't like any of them, and I think they're overpriced - £185 for ugly boots!
Does anyone have any recommendations? Perhaps I should post in Style & Beauty? I haven't seen anything stylish or beautiful though...

I got some fit flop Mary Janes and they're great

I use insoles from Boots in my normal shoes. I cant remember what they're called but they're dark blue with gel under the heel part. Have you seen a physio? You can have acupuncture by the physio for it at my local hospital.

Wolfiefan · 26/09/2015 09:08

Are you having physio? Tried rolling a chilled can of drink under your foot?
Sorry. I know it's not what you asked!

Thanks all, starting physio next week but have been doing all the exercises (DH had it last year so I know them all!)
Tried the Mary Janes but really want boots now Smile

After a bout of plantar fasciitis I bought some 3/4 length inserts to wear in my usual boots and trainers and those seem to do the trick.

I bought them from Amazon for about £5-6 a pair (just do a search for plantar fasciitis insoles)

I'm marking my place. I've had Plantar fasciitis for 3 years non-stop. My gp refused to refer me to a physio-therapist. So I've been seeing a physio privately for 2 months.

I have Scholls inner soles in my normal boots. The blue ones are the workwear variety. I went for those as my foot pain is extreme.

marriednotdead · 26/09/2015 09:43

Have a similar condition to PF that won't bloody go away. Scholl sports orthotics are pricey but worth it. Half a shoe size up and/or wide fit to compensate for stolen space!

Best boots have been ones with slightly thicker moulded soles.
Many are fugly but have previously found some ok ones in Dune, Fly London, and the Lotus Relife range.

Thanks again!

Have some gel heel inserts but they make my existing boots feel too tight, which could lead to a whole other list of foot problems!

I had high hopes for Fly boots but wore my old ones on Thursday and was still in agony. They are very worn down though, have seen some nice ankle ones I might try.

I know I should put comfort before style but I'm 50 next year (surrounded by Cheshire set school mums not even 40) so would like to look reasonably ok!

Anything loose makes mine worse so flip flops are the worst. Lace ups quite tight are the best thing for me. Not glamorous though.

rumbleinthrjungle · 26/09/2015 17:37

Flyflot's Dream sandals with the cushioned heels. Pavers shoe shops/website have them. Not the most glamorous (sigh, I miss high heels) but they aren't hideous and there are days when that's the only thing I can put heel to floor in.

ProfYaffle · 26/09/2015 17:40

Sketchers Go Walk for me. Plus the gel heel cups everyone else has been talking about. They're really cheap on Amazon, I got several pairs and even had them in slippers etc.

Anomia10 · 26/09/2015 17:44

I was given an anti-inflammatory (Naprosyn) and referred to the Musculo-Skeletal clinic. They looked at my gait and prescribed some inserts for my shoes - better than the ones I bought from Boots.

They also told me to wear shoes that support my heels - like no flip-flops; and not to walk about bare footed in the house! My GP said lots of people get it from wearing wellies in the snow in the winter!

It cleared up with the inserts.
