Thrush - someone help me get rid of it!!!!

I have thrush (again). I have taken the single capsule (can't remember what it's called - similar to the Canestan one but not branded). Took it on Monday. Still no signs of it going. Have been using Canestan cream - does nothing.

I have used gyno-daktarin pessaries in the past but don't have any left - not sure if I need a prescription for them or not but can't face going back to the doctor again (have been there about 6 times in two weeks with sick kids).

But this weekend DH and I are actually having a night away together in a hotel (only the second time in 3 years) and I finally have contraception and it would be nice if we could actually have sex. But there's no way it's going to happen if I still have this bloody thrush - it is just too sore.

Any suggestions or ideas to get rid of it fast?

I have had all the symptoms of thrush for the past 8 weeks and have used 3 pessarys and caneston, stopped eating sugar. I also went to the DR and took the tablet but still no relief. So went to the Dr again and had a swab. Turned out negatvie for thrush but I still have all the symptoms. Am now having a blood test for diabetes (was tested when pregnant only about 8 months ago, so i know this is not it). If that comes back negative I am demanding to be referred to a Gyno. It's hindering my sex life and is a general pain in the punani. My point to you is it might not be thrush so best go and get a swab.

Tassietoo, I have also had repeated swabs which came back negative.
Eventually went to a G.U.M. clinic where there was a really good doctor who said that happens all the time, and it depends on the amount of thrush cells in swab. Basically if you get it a lot, you can have a very low number of cells that wouldn't show up in a swab.

Also get iron levels checked as aneimea can lead to thrush.

I could never earn a living as a call girl, I'd be off sick all the time!

I am convinced that what I have is thrush. I've had it sooooo many times in my life that I can't possibly confuse it with anything else. Mine gets so bad that I get little cuts on my bits. So when I wipe, there's blood on the toilet paper. Nice.

I would definitely get it checked out if it isn;t responsding to the otc stuff.

I thought I had it during the summer - have had it before (so I thought).

After a month of misery, several canesten pessaries etc it turned out to be a bacterial infection (BV) - it's not an STD, is just an overgrowth of bad bacteria.

By teh time my swab came back it was on it's way out so I didn;t have antibiotics, but was offered them.

Thanks for that Fizzbuzz. Am so sick of cr*p doctors!

God J&J that sounds awful, you really have my sympathy. I hate *thrush,it really is a nightmare, and is not always given the attention it deserves as it is so commonplace.

Sometimes I wish I could have a naughty bits transplant, and then I would never suffer thrush or cystitis, How crap is it getting those 2 together? I try and avoid antibiotics at all costs.

Diflucan is available over the counter. Boots do an own brand version of the same medicine which is about a pound cheaper.

try adding a few drops of grapefruit seed extract to water and drinking three times a day.
