Every year ds suffers with tonsilitis and then an awful cough that just does not go away. Hes 3 1/2 and last year the dr said he might be asthmatic as he keeps having the cough, (I am alos asthmatic). he gave us inhalers that did absolutely nothing.(we only had to use them when he had the chesty cough). So a year later (we have not been using the inhalers) he had tonsilitus last week, saw dr got ab's and now cough is awful, ab's are finished. Should I take him back ( cos normally they say there is nothing they can do for him)? Every night he is coughing every few seconds and last night brough up some bile.

I'd take him back to see GP. Perhaps the ab's weren't strong enough to clear it and the infection is still lingering? Certainly think it's worth having him checked over again.
Does your practice have an asthma nurse? They can be good on the practicalities of inhalers and might be able to advise you.

Is he coughing mostly at night or is it all the time. Is the cough a barky cough? I ask as my dd suffered from croup from between aged 18mths until 7 yrs. Always came about in the winter following a cold. She went through a period when she was wheezy and the GP said it was asthma. However I didn't really think it was and felt it was more related to the croup. Anyway, I never used any of the inhalers I was prescribed for her 'just in case' and she was absolutely fine.

Summer111 that is exactly what my mum and I thought it was. I suffered with it while I was young. When we asked the dr last year about it he said he didnt think it was,but I still do. Our gp surgery is awful. The only decent dr there u have to wait weeks to see. What did u do to help ease the coughing? mI have been steaming him in the bathroom and sometimes use vicks in the water. any other suggestions?
