Dust mite allergy

Recently been diagnosed with quite a severe allergy to dust mites resulting in having to take anti histamines a couple of times a week. As I am breastfeeding dd this isnt really ideal or what I want to be doing long term.

Apart from changing my bedding to ant dust mite stuff what else can I do? Am pretty clean and tidy - no carpets except on stairs and landing.

Any tips/ideas would be really appreciated as its driving me mad!

oh thats a shame, i had this when i was younger and it came back with both pregnancies, i have not been bothered with dust for about 3yrs now. What syptoms do you have? I had streaming eyes,pressure behind my nose with major sneezing attacks also streaming nose and my skin became itchy mainly my hands when dusting.

I just had cotton bedding that i washed every 2 days, like you only stairs had carpet, i still brush and mop my floors reguarly. i have those static dust cloths that the dust sticks to then i bung them in the washing machine, also have the ones for the floors. I always found it was worse in summer than anything else!

Quite severe reaction - lips swell and my face and large itchy lumps all over my body! Is also aggravating my asthma which is a pain.

Is so infuruating as has come out of nowhere since having dd - was always slightly prone to itchy eyes etc but nothing this severe

poor you, lips swelling must be scary, was going to ask if you had asthma, i don't have it but my chest used to go tight and start to rattle a bit, when in labour with ds it was quite bad until the midwife realised the lamp above me was covered in dust! That explained why i felt so ill! You never know it may stop like mine did, another thing i got a rection to was my budgies but only in my second pregnancy i felt flu like constantly until the doctor asked if i had pets, weird thing is i was perfectly fine with the budgies first time round!

Hoover bed once a week, get a matress protector so you can wash it often.

Ask dh to hoover and dust for you if possible.

I have had severe allergy to dust mites and other small particles since i was a baby (was told i would grow by i 14yrs now 37) and it's been ok for the last 3 years.

I find it go around in cycles where some years are a lot worse then others.

what about those air purifier thingies... ionizers are they called? I keep meaning to find out more about them.

I'm wondering if dd has this allergy, she's always sneezing first thing in the morning, itchy eyes etc...

She has a bit of asthma but it almost seems like they are separate things.

Yes do work as all the dust collects around the air purifier. yes they are called ionizers.

taramac I ahve had similar problems but recently read about taking high doses of vitami C to boost the immune system

I started doing it (1 x 1000mg tablet morning and evening - Boots are doing them 3 for 2) a few days ago and it has really made a difference, I have managed without the antihistamines for the last day, long may it last

Apparently short pile carpets are no longer regarded as that bad, because they 'bind' the dust and it doesn't fly about inhibited. (Need to hoover regularly, of course!)

Here in swabia almost everyone hangs their duvets + covers out of the window daily to air . I still find the custom bizarre, but when it's cold + sunny outside I sometimes put the duvet and pillows onto the balcony in the hope that the cold will kill off some mites.

I have a degree of dust mite allergy (bound up with asthma) but it seems to be on it way out.
