I think I have thrush but the swab was negative

I had thrush symptoms a few weeks ago no itching like usual but swelling after sex and a vinegary smell and a lot of watery discharge.
I treat the thrush twice in the hope it would clear up and it did for about a week, I then went for swabs to check for infection before having a coil fitted and the nurse commented that it looked like I had thrush and that we can treat it when the results come back.
Well they came back and they were negative!
I know it's a bit TMI but today I was sat doing my make up and I could feel gushing down there and wondered if it was my period coming early but it was just a lot of watery discharge running out. It has been happening a lot today.

I feel dirty because of it but I'm unsure what to do next.
Should I try treat it again?
I tried the pessary and cream combi last time then the internal and external creams after that. That was before the swabs though.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Bacterial vaginosis.

Ask for the cream and applicator because the ABs are evil.

You're better off going to the sti clinic and having a full screen though. They'll tell you on the spot if it's that and give you the treatment.

Not exactly the same symptoms (no watery discharge) but similar situation for me. I had general discomfort down below rather than itching associated with thrush but the nurse diagnosed thrush due to the amount of white discharge sitting up there. Like you, my swab came back clear.

After lots of Canestan pessaries/cream etc. over about three weeks which didn't help at all, my issue was resolved in 48 hours using Balance Activ gel which I bought at the pharmacy having gone there for advice in desperation (obviously no examination but with a description of symptoms the wonderful pharmacist immediately knew how to deal with it)!

Can't recommend this stuff highly enough. It stings for about 30 seconds on application but that sensation changes to a lovely soothing feeling after a couple of minutes.

Brilliant, thank you for the quick responses!! Smile

What does ABs mean gamer?

I always though BV and thrush were the same thing, clearly not! Can't wait to get shut of it because I feel dirty

I had a full screening for infection before the coil was fitted and haven't had sex since.
Think I will just try the BV treatment and see if it improves!

Antibiotics.

What I mean is the clinic will diagnose and give you the treatment there and then while you're there without the swab sent off thing the gps do. Just for quickness.

It's a pain in the arse BV.

ProfessorPickles · 17/09/2015 13:36

Ok brilliant I will do that, that's good that there'll be no waiting time. Thank you Gamer!

Yeah, sounds like BV - there isn't always a fishy smell with it.

WorzelsCornyBrows · 17/09/2015 20:36

I thought BV too.

Hi, did the sti clinic tests show anything? I have negative swabs too but worry that the gp swab is not picking up the bv infection-false negatives!
