Is it normal to feel exhausted after an osteopath appointment?

I'm a runner and I've had a niggle in my hip and hamstring for months. Regular sports massage wasn't helping so I tried the osteopath recommended by a friend.

He's diagnosed a problem in my back and done some stretches and manipulation. All very gentle, nothing like the pain from a sports massage!

However, a couple of hours later my back is very sore (back didn't hurt before) and I am shattered. Am seriously considering going for a lay down, which is something I haven't done since I was pregnant 15 years ago.

I guess the sore back is to be expected, but is the tiredness usual?

I went for a massage recently and was wiped out after.
She told me that deep rissue manipulation releases all the lactic acid that builds up in your muscles and can leave you very tired afterwards.
I slept for hours after .

I don't know about the sore back but I remember being warned about being shattered afterwards and I was!

I find it's ok if you drink loads of water after - I think it flushes out any stuff released. The first time I didn't do that I felt awful - shattered and a bit like a hangover.

I could hardly walk after my first appointment
It got less extreme and cured my back problem
