enlarged liver anyone?

Does anyone have any experience of a possible enlarged liver? I been feeling a tenderness in the liver area all weekend and at other intermittant times in the past months, even feels a bit uncomfortable to sleep on my right side. The GP has referred me for an abdominal scan and I am terrified now and thinking the worst. Googled enlarged liver this am and came up with possible cancer. Can anyone shed any light on this or help me be positive. I know I am sorry a worrier and as DH says why worry unless you have to. Help anybody please?

It much more likely to be fine you know, every one gets tenderness and aches and pains sometimes. How old are you? Would you fit into a risky catergory. sounds like your gp is just being thorough

hello fulloflife. No experience of this, so I can't be much help I'm afraid. Hopefully someone with more info will be along soon.
Just wanted to wish you all the best - and to remind you that googling often reveals just the bleakest side of things, so perhaps it would be best to telephone your GP for answers to your specific questions?

did they run blood tests first (to look at liver function etc.)?

I occasionally have an enlarged spleen but I've not had any tests.

Im 50 and told the gp I was really anxious and worried as I thought of cancer, she just suggested I keep note of how often I feel uncomfortable. Said I could go for a scan if I was worried.

No, there was no mention of blood tests being carried out. Luckily I have private healthcare and I am going for the scan tomorrow afternoon.

I have an enlarged liver since tiny, it has had no impact on me at all.
(my Dh says I can drink twice as much as everyone else )

I hope all's well, sure you will be fine.

Thanks Mrsnoah, I'm also 2st overweight although I don't know if that would cause me any problems.

Are you sure its not the gallbladder?

fulloflife · 27/11/2006 13:27

No I'm not sure of anything at the moment, just my mind racing against a whole of of horrible theories. I do not and have not had any sytoms of anything at all except that the liver area feels noticeably tender and I am a terrible worryguts.

Try not to worry. I'm sure if the GP was worried about the liver, she would have arranged blood tests. Did she have any other ideas what might be causing the tenderness?

noddyholder · 27/11/2006 17:03

Do you haev any other symptoms?Like the others have said if he suspected anything serious he would ask for bloods

fulloflife · 27/11/2006 18:08

No the GP said nothing else, I guess like you guys are saying, he would have mentioned it wouldn't he. Thanks.
