I am a lovely fibroid the size of an orange and I have successfully infiltrated BoffinMum's body causing all sorts of mischief

Roll up, roll up and tell us what you are up to and how big you have grown.

By the way, my role model is the alien that burst out of Sigourney Weaver's body in Alien. Except I do not plan on bursting out!

Dear BoffinMums fibroid Brian,
Not sure if you are still lurking on here but can i introduce myself as Pepsipeckles fibroid Hugo. What do you think about esmya ? Pepsipeckle has been on it 1 month and is beginning to ask why. Being her fibroid i think she should listen to GP1 who says what's the point I am so large orange or grapefruit sized that it won't make enough difference and she should just phone up the gyny and get put straight back on the waiting list for a hysterectomy.
I lay dormant and unknown for possibly 2 years lying next to a mirena until suddenly i decided to expel mirena and let myself known. Major flooding blood count dropping from 15 to 8 in 2 weeks. etc etc decided to repeat this pattern especially over xmas hols before esmya has stopped me.
Pepsipeckle has been reasonably lucky in that she got a gyny appointment within a month ,who was very much all for another mirena until she saw the size of me and the size i had made my home so advised hysterectomy and booked me in to be slaughtered and removed. Meanwhile GP1. GP2 and GP3 have dropped me a lifeline and confused pepsipeckle and i am thinking i may have a reprieve. Suggestions have been rather random but include a 2nd opinion in neighbouring county for possible UAE (yet to materialize).
Peps takes the esmya stuff at night because she was like a banshee when she took it during the day. She isn't sleeping great . So the plus side is she is so confused she is doing nothing. i don't think it has occured to her that she will have to stop taking them and then i can cause more havoc. Do you have a plan Brian?

Hi Hugo we are bum's fibroids. Bum took us to the Gp today and the GP has decided we are too messy to risk shoving an IUD in with womb distortion and they need to come out. She's referred bum to a specialist to exterminate us.

I skip past the fanny pad aisle like a spring lamb

This made me laugh :-) Have to admit to feeling that way a bit too. Saving me a fortune as well, the number of pads and tampons I used to go through.

Sorry to hear you're having issues Pepsipeckle. Sounds like you're getting a lot of conflicting advice from GPs which perhaps isn't surprising as fibroids have so many possible treatments and outcomes. It's not something simple - if it was your gallbladder for example your choices would be take it out, or do nothing. With fibroids it depends on how many there are, how you're affected, your age, whether you want more kids, how they're attached to your uterus, your preferences for surgical/non-surgical options etc etc etc.

In your position I would be going back to the GP and asking for a referral back to a consultant. They need to know that the Esmya isn;t agreeing with you, your Mirena is AWOL and you're bloody miserable. Surgery like hysterectomy is a major op and not to be taken lightly, but if that's what the consultant recommended then I'd be tempted to go with their opinion rather than that of a GP who although well-meaning, isn't a specialist. UAE is not suitable for all fibroids so you'd need a MRI to determine whether it was possible in your case.

The good thing about hysterectomy is that it will definitely get rid of the fibroid and stop your bleeding. It's a guarantee.

First period since IUD came out is here, a week late. So at least I had a slightly longer break this time thank god. Not heavy yet so haven't started the TA. Have no idea how this period will be this time. Annoyingly I just joined the gym to try get my weight down (in the vain hope this will help me) am hoping that I can manage through it without splattering the running machine

Swearygodmother, I was exactly like you, was i initially told I'd definitely be having a hysterectomy andthen the oncologist gynae I was referred to decided hysterescopic resection would be the best option. To say I was devastated was an understatement. But, five weeks since the procedure and I havent had a bleed yet, so I'm hoping Its done the trick. Onthe brightside the recovery ismuch quicker too.

Well it appears I managed to state my case eloquently enough to be heard. It took a lot of showing the team their statements were not entirely correct, and presenting evidence to support my position (that drugs they were suggesting for me post hysteroscopy weren't appropriate for me). I'm now on the list for a hysterectomy. Which can't come soon enough because the norethisterone I was taking to stop me bleeding was causing suicidal ideation so I'm back to bleeding all the time, and having a lovely flooding incident in the supermarket.
