Which is a problem, as I am a mard

Will be sedated. Can anyone who has had one reassure me about it- is it as bad as I fear?

you own;t remember a thing....! not a thing.....don;t worry...it is absolutely nothing to worry about .. it is not as bad as you fear....you'll come round and wonder where an hour of your life went!!!

threelittlegifts · 26/11/2006 21:16

hmmm I am convinced I won't remember it, but even being aware of it at the time is making me stress! I'll come round you say...will I actually be asleep?

:LOL!! no , i guess not...!!! were you really talking about me ??

LOL

well, when i had my colonoscopy..i had the sedation, then about 30second into the procedure.it all goes blank..i remember waking up in the room, and needing a wee! had to call teh nurse as i was really wooooooooozy !!! she helped me to the loo,.or i would have hit the deck!

about am hour after that , i was able to have a drink and a snack and discuss the possible findings with the consultant...

felt a bit odd for 12 hours..but thats it..really don;t remember anythign

and getting a diagnosis & medication was worth any amount of indignity IMHO!!! but it was honestly ok!!

LieselVonTrapp · 26/11/2006 21:32

Oh I had one of those. It was a pain in the arse - litterally. Its a walk in the partk though and not as bad as childbirth - or so Im told.

Dottydot · 26/11/2006 21:59

Hi - I haven't had one of these, but have just had an endoscopy and I was such a mard arse that the consultant said he'd give me the same amount of sedation as a colonoscopy (6mg of something..!) - I was out for the count, didn't know a thing about the endoscopy and woke up about an hour later feeling fine! I was very sleepy for a few hours after it and kept forgetting what I'd said, and what anyone had said to me.

So, make sure you get lots of sedation and you'll be out for the count and won't know anything about it - good luck.

threelittlegifts · 26/11/2006 22:25

Hi all, thanks for replies and reassurance (apart from telling me it was a pain in the arse! )

Dottydot- what is the difference between an endoscopy and a colonoscopy? Am guessing colonoscopy is deeper, so to speak

Am liking the idea of being out for the count.

My mum had another procedure (forget the name) and she did it WITHOUT SEDATION. My mum must be hard.

lulu yes we were talking about you (preen away)- been asking SMM to come to Stockport meet up, and she suggested new year as you had been discussing her going to you. I suggested somewhere in the middle of us both

I had one of these years ago - sedation would have been an improvement - they didn't tell me I could have it! It wasn't very much fun (neither was the laxative beforehand) more 'cos I didn't like the idea of what was going on and it's a pretty weird sensation rather than painful, but I think it would have been fine with some drugs. Good luck, hope it goes OK

foundintranslationnothere · 26/11/2006 22:29

I've had one, and tbh the worst thing was the clearing out beforehand. The sedation knocked me out cold too - next thing I knew the procedure was over and I was being helped out of the place by dh and a doctor because there was a bomb scare There was no pain.

EllieChocolateOrange · 26/11/2006 22:30

i had the endoscopy without sedation. the 'worst' bit is the enema you have beforehand. sorry, but prepare yaself for that (if you need to have it). the actual procedure wasn't that bad, and you could see everything on a screen as they went 'in' (so to speak!) so it was like watching your bowel on telly. Wow!

lou33 · 26/11/2006 22:48

i had it done

i was sedated and i do recall it was still uncomfortable but not unbearable and they were all v nice to me, but i wasnt out for the count

threelittlegifts · 26/11/2006 22:49

thanks guys

at watching bowel on telly! Am big wimp

So this enema- it is bad, no? Was told would have picalax the day before and I would basically poo all day, this sound about right?

Consultant 90% sure I didn't need the procedure, but offered it due to history of bowel and colon probs in my family, including terminal cancer. As I have 2 children I felt I had no choice but to have it.

yes i had an endoscopy too and hte enema was awful BUT for the colonoscopy they gave me some stuff to take a few days before hand and a restricted diet, which had a less immediate and drastic effect, but still cleaned me out

lulumama · 26/11/2006 22:51

i had the picalax...it wasnt awful...no enema!

lou33 · 26/11/2006 22:51

yeh picolax, that's it, WAY better than the enema
