HELP NEEDED Headache in 6 year old

My DD age 6 has had headache now since Thursday. She is eating and sleeping normally but is much less lively than usual and a little cranky. Have had the usual 'is there anything worrying you' conversations to no avail. What can I do next? Is it too soon to take her to GP?

Have you been giving her Calpol for it? Calpol withdrawal can give headaches.

Yes Tinker I have. Do you think I should switch to Nurofen? Having said that she has only had 2 Calpol meltlets per day, do you think that is enough to affect her?

Hi shopaholic - tbh I don't know what dosage would cause it but I do remember reading an article about kids who had persisitent headaches and it being due to the withrawal effects of the Calpol (or paracetemol). Nothing to lose by changing to nurofen.

Could be a symptom of something else like a strep throat infection or sinusitis. Worth going to gp just to rule it out.

with my ds one dose of nurofen is usually enough to zap a headache calpol has never worked

Thanks to all! Will definately try Nurofen and am taking her to opticians after school for eye test to rule out eyestrain.
