Contraception advice please!

Ok I am 22, no children in a monogamous relationship - no STDs etc.

Am currently on the patch (same as the pill) but don't think it has helped me weight wise but its pretty good otherwise but am now considering some other options. We don't want to go back to using condoms and I can't have the injection.

Can I have a coil or do you have to have a baby first? Am I stuck with the patch?

Also we want to TTC in 2 years so i want something that I can come off and be able to have a baby fairly quickly - ie don't want to have to wait a year or something.

Only the patch/pill fulfills this doesn't it?

You could use a diaphragm as you put this in before intercourse and take it out after, it is more effective if you use with spermicides. You can also go for the coil, however this method is not as effective as a condom and does not stop fertilisation. It prevents the embryo from implanting in the uterus wall (depending on your religeon you may not want to use this method). You don't have to have had a baby before using the coil. Both the diaphragm and the coil have to be fitted by your GP/practice nurse.

the coil is extremely effective...more so than condoms i beleive.

Smurf..i would go to my local family planning clinic and go through the options there,,,,the coil is effective..but not sure how long it takes for fertility to return after it is removed......

The coil is extremely effective nearly 100 % condoms give around 96-98% effectiveness even with perfect use and with the coil there is no room for user error.
Women who haven't had a baby can have a coil fitted but it can be more difficult as the cervix is tightly closed.
Fertlity is not affected,as allybaba said fertilisation still takes place embryo just doesn't implant, once the coil is removed it is possible to conceive immeadiately.
