Please hold my hand...worrying breast cancer symptom

In the last few months I have noticed that one of my breasts has changed shape very slightly, when I look in the mirror I can see a sort of indent/dimple on the underside. I can feel that it goes in a bit but there is no lump. It's not a big area and probably more obvious to me now I can see it. I had a baby at Christmas so I am also thinking could it be a result of changing body shape/weight loss?

Anyway I finally plucked up the courage to make a doctors appointment, the first one I can get is next week.

I've been googling (which I know I shouldn't) and everything says lumps can be cysts but is that the same with indents/dimples? All I can find is that it is a breast cancer symptom

I'm so worried I can't think straight, I have a young baby and just keep thinking the worst. Has anyone else been through this?

I'm sorry you're so worried and hope you really have nothing to worry about. Why don't you call the surgery and explain what the problem is and ask for an earlier appointment? I know my surgery would see you on the same day for something like this. Best of luck.

Thank you for answering. I took your advice and got an appointment today at the doctors and have been given an urgent referral to the breast clinic. The doctor was lovely and said given my age and the fact that I have fairly recently had a baby (which can cause changes) he thought it was unlikely to be anything serious but that it did need to be checked that he wanted peace of mind for both of us.

I should have an appointment at the clinic within 2 weeks, wish me luck!

I was just about to start a thread when I came across this one.

I recently found a lump round the side of boob, but, then had a period and I'm no longer sure if it's still there or not. Normally I would have ignored as I'm fully aware that TOTM can cause lumps and bumps, BUT, when lying down there is a dent in the skin below the nipple. When I sit up this isn't visible. Bother the gp or ignore?

Hi Diffy and Plum, Diffy you've done the right thing going to the docs. It is worrying waiting but much worse not doing anything. Therefore I think you should get it checked out Plum, odds are it's nothing but from experience know there doesn't have to be any real symptoms. Good luck both of you X

Plum, I was worried the GP would think I was wasting his time but he was lovely. It's strange even though I have been referred I feel much better now, I guess because I've finally done something about it and it's out of my hands. Good luck, I hope it's nothing.

Breast cancer is extremely uncommon in younger women - stats are here but really no need to look if it's going to worry you. 80% of cases are diagnosed in the over 50s. Given you've recently had a baby the breast changes are almost certainly related to that but you've done the right thing in going to get things checked out.

Hope you'll get the all clear soon - I think you have the right attitude in that there's no point worrying now that you have the appointment.

That's ok Diffy and Plum, am a bit of a lurker was diagnosed after routine mammogram and MRI but know how tough it is to make the decision to go to docs so thought I'd post, again good luck X

I had an OC scare last year and I'm still under investigation so I'm wary of turning up with yet another symptom, but, better safe than sorry I suppose.

Hi. having treatment now was diagnosed in May. My silver lining is was found early. Still have to have a mastectomy and treatment etc which is crap obv but am hopeful it's fully treatable. As it can be symptomless (and was for me) I'm all for people getting checked. The doctor will understand. Again hope all goes well for any being checked at the mo X

My friends MIL had to have a full mastectomy and treatment. She faced it with a smile on her face and had no qualms about showing off her boobless scar, she took it in her stride, it was her survival wound as she saw it. She eventually passed away a very good age, nothing to do with the cancer.

I went to the gp this morning. Couldn't find any lump and agreed it probably was TOTM related. As for the dent below the nipped, I have a scar there and she thinks it may be related to that, but, wants to recheck in 2 wks with possible refferal to the hospital for a scan. She was very reassuring.

Staygold, hope all went well.

Just in case anyone is reading this in the future after googling their symptoms, I had my hospital appointment and the consultant said it was nothing to worry about and it was a result of pregnancy. Breast tissue changes shape after milk is produced (even though I didn't breastfeed) but these changes are not even which caused the indent/flatness of one of my breasts.

Hi Diffy and Plum haven't been on much due to hackergate but thought I'd post and say I'm doing fine, thanks for all the wishes Flowers stayed in for 3 days, pain not too bad. Worst pain is the lymph node area, very odd sensations, numbness and pins and needles but again not too bad. Had some good news the nodes all came back clear which is a huge relief GrinSo pleased for you both that it's all ok. Keep checking like normal though ladies and any concerns see your GP. That's what they're there for! X

Definitely the best outcome Diffy Smilemeans it hasn't travelled anywhere else so after mastectomy and lymph node removal it's gone.... Good luck to anyone else waiting for results and going through treatment Flowers
