Had my coil fitted back in july of this year and whilst it solved the problem of heavy peroids (due to fibrods)it left me with a few extra problems , spots(didnt even have them as a teenager) hair loss and now a slightly worring problem. I bleed after sex and have a sharp stitch like pain on my lower right side. I this has been going on now for three weeks, but i havnt gone to my doctors as i have my hospital app in two weeks.I was never told about the strings and havent ever been able to feel anything,do you think it may have mived and prehaps become inbedded somewhere.? . Any ideas, cant go to the doctors at the moment as i,m having my very light peroid.

bump for you. Is this really called a mirena coil? I'm sure I've seen threads with that in the title - you could try putting that into a 'search all messages'.

Get it checked out jules. You should be able to feel the strings, that is how you check it's there. The pain and the fact that you can't feel the strings might suggest that it has moved.

Hope you're ok

Jules - take the hair loss seriously - I had the merina coil put in earlier this year and from having no problems all my hair started falling out. GP said unrelated to coil but agreed to take it out and it has now stopped but I will be left with a mullet soon as it is so much thicker on the top and fine at the ends. I looked at webites in US and they all mentioned problems including hair loss. i feel great now four months after it was removed.

You can go during a period - in fact they often fit then. Perhaps you could ask the practice nurse to check the threads are still in place (could never feel mine anyway).

Anytime you have bleeding after sex it should be checked out.

Agree with Ex Pat...get it checked out. I'm sure the doc has dealt with worse!

Went to see my GP when I couldn't find my strings "Can't find it"...the strings had curled up round the sides of my cervix so I couldn't feel them

Big hug, will be thinking about you.
