My little one collided with the door frame at full speed this evening. He has a huge 'egg' on his head (he is 18 months). I took him to NHS walk in clinic and they said he looked OK but I should wake him 2 or 3 times during the night. Does that mean fully wake him? Not looking forward to a good nights sleep.

I've always been told that a lump is a good sign, and that as long as they aren't overly drowsy when it happens, and they cry then there isn't much to worry about,.
this is from experience too, I have a rather accident prone 22 month old.

tbh I wouldn't wake him at all if he seems ok

I was recently did first aid training and was told that you can let a child sleep after bumping their heads. Signs of anything serious are, loss of conciousness when they hit their head, vomitting more than once (not sure why it has to be more than once) and black eyes (that would indicate a fractured skull)

I have never heard that you should wake a child up several time during the night. Not saying they are wrong of course, they know their job and advised you accordingly, its just not something I have ever been told.

Cry - he certainly did. To be honest it was the speed with which it came up that was terrifying....about 2 seconds!!!! Got 2 boys and thought I'd seen most bumps and lumps! To be honest I kept him awake for a few hours afterwards and he did not seem phased at all...just kept pointing to his little head and saying 'owww'!! Have just checked on him and he has stirred so all well thus far. Glad others are on-line just as late as me!
