why is DD well in the morning but unwell in the afternoon?

the last few days, 20 month old DD has been okay in the morning and at lunchtime and then at about 4pm has suddenly got a raging temperature, refused to eat any tea, brightened up for 10 mins after the first dose of calpol and then crashed out about 6pm (normal bedtime about 7/7.30). Last night I kept checking her and about 11pm had to get her up and stripped off to cool her down again but then she responded well to the calpol again and she slept through the night fine.

This morning she was a happy bunny, went out to normal activities and she was the life and soul but then again, at about 4pm today, high temperature, miserable as sin and bed at 6pm with half a glass of milk and no tea.

Any ideas please?

take her to gp. they won't (or shouldn't) belittle you for your concern over your daughter. and if they do, report them to practice manager and ask to see another gp immediatley. or even better take her to a+e. get a braun thermoscan , they cost around £40 form mothercare. they are bit pricey but well worth it when i could tell that dd had temp of 39+. are you in sw mckenzie? know someone of that name with dd same age if you, will phone soon x

try NHS24 for an after hours appointment w/another GP and see how you get on.

Have her molars come through yet?

mckenzie · 21/11/2006 21:36

I have the Braun thermoscan Fransmom. She's been reaching high 39s but the calpol and neurofen are always bringing it down. She doesn't seem unwell really, just grumpy and tired, so i'm not overly concerned other than i obviously dont like to see her unhappy.
I can always get an appt with my doctor in the morning which i might well do if she is unwell tonight again.

VeniVidiVickiQV - interesting that you asked that as when i mentioned it to MIL tonight she immediately said she thought it was her teeth. She's only got about 10 teeth so far (bless her) and thinking about it, she refused point blank to clean her teeth last night and again this morning. I shall go and try to have a look now while she's asleep.

Thanks for all your replies.
