Feels like I have something in eye but don't see anything

Started early hours this morning felt like I had something on right eye so rubbed it and went to sleep been ok most of the day till late this afternoon same feeling again had a good look in mirror but couldn't see anything apart from a few eyelashes washed my eye and felt ok then felt it again but not as much as before what could it be
Feels like a bit of grit etc or could it be done to my hay fever causing dry eyes maybe had this feeling before now I think about it sure it was my left eye and went away

There is a condition where you can wrinkle something in the eye when you rub it.
An eyelash etc can also scratch the eye making it feel sore even once the eyelash is gone.
Check for eyelashes growing into the eye or a stye.

Have you tried an eye bath/wash you can buy them from any chemist. I use Superdrugs own brand and that works a treat. It's so irritating when you can feel something in your eye.
