Breathing difficulties after pneumonia

I'm so hopefully of some positive stories here...
I was hospitalized with a typical pneumonia 7 weeks ago. One week of IV antibiotics+ 1 week of oral antibiotics (x2)

I had been feeling generally ok up until last week. I found/ find it difficult to take a full deep breath. As a child I had asthma, hardly ever bothers me as an adult but my GP suggested the use of inhalers thinking this was the issue. They didn't help. I returned and got steroids which helped for a day or two and then back to square one.

I had my hospital check up today. X Ray totally clear. Respiratory Dr says the problem is not asthma.

Why can't I breathe then? She says its just 'sensation'.
I didn't have breathing difficulties when I had the pneumonia. This is new.

Can anyone please offer any reassurance or advice. I feel I have nowhere to turn now. I have small children and can't be feeling like this.

Thanks for reading

That's terrible misslgl88.
I'm getting so down and distressed about my inability to just take a deep breath. There's no wheezing etc and I don't feel out of breath if I walk etc but can feel a tightness accompanied by not being able to inhale fully.

OP, maybe a long shot, but google Hyperventilation Syndrome. Caused by wrong breathing, after illness (pain?) and by other things like breathing through the mouth etc.

The inability to breathe deeply and weird sensation did ring a bell. Are you sometimes catching your breath in several short sighs?

I read Dinah Bradley's book which was very helpful.

Hi Mellifera
I started some breathing exercises today on the advice of my GP.
Everything is as it should be with X-ray and bloods so I'm hoping time will be the healer.
Thank you for the suggestion

in March 2017 I was at a boxing competition I had a pain in my right side, medics were not too happy with me so when into hospital for suspected appendicitis... toke my appendix out wasn't my appendix then found an infection in my pelvis.. that's done with... while I was recovering I got bilateral pneumonia... and was intubated and ventilated for about 8days very heavily sedated... few days gone past and I recovered quick quickly... really wanting to get out of ICU... then 2weeks off then back to work! But now a few months down the line I'm feeling okay just when I go for runs my breathing feels really heavy and not like it used to? Will I get this back? How long will it take for my lungs to recover completely?

Think I might have a ting amount of fluid on the lungs. Just really want this feeling of breathlesssness to go when I run! How long?
