having crown done - am very scared

I have to have two crowns done tomorrow - the prep work first. I have hardly had any dental problems but since babies seems decay has set in. I am really really scared.

What does 'crown prep' involve?
How long does it take?
How much does it hurt?

I am scared enough now so hate to think what I will feel like tomorrow!

I had one this year it didn't hurt at all!

Have you had root canals in the teeth?

They will inject you anyway, don't worry. They just grind down the tooth about 2mm all the way round so the crown can fit. The worst bit is when they put this horrible jelly stuff in your mouth and you have to sit there for ages while it hardens.

I've had two crowns though not at the same time. It doesn't hurt but is very boring as you lie there with your mouth open for aaaaages. I wish they'd project a film onto the ceiling so you had something to do!

agree the jelly stuff is the worst bit.

The reality of having it done is not nearly as bad as you expect it to be and it shouldn't hurt.

thank you - I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this - most helpful.

I just hope it doesn't take too long!

I had two crowns done last year, it's not nice, but the only thing that hurt was the injections to numb me. The drilling |(to file down the tooth) wasn't pleasant, so be warne dit isn't a breeze, and I had a thumping headache afterwards, but as for pain, none once the injectinos had gone in.

Good luck!

PS I am a complete and utter yellow belly and survived!
