Blisters on feet ?

Ds son has had a spotty rash on face for 2 days and have just got him ready for bed and noticed blisters on the sole's of his feet and raised red lumps? Does anyone know what it is. Could it be foot and mouth? He has been grizzly for a few days, a little warm, but he has been teething so we put it down to that. Should I take him to doctors? I don't think it's his shoes because he's only had them 2 weeks.

Hmmmm, sounds like it could be hand foot and mouth, but then I'm no expert. Make a GP appt and ask him/her to look at it asap, as I think HF&M is v contagious.

Thanks WSM, will call doctor's in the morning. I feel really bad now as we went to toddler group today and if it's contagious

When dd had it, she was grizzly too before the spots appeared.
The spots were quite big, fluid filled blisters and specifically she got them in the joints between fingers and toes.
I was recommended calpol for the temperature and for general comfort although dd said they weren't painful. She just felt kind of fluey.
Can't remember what the time rules for keeping them off school or nursery as dd had it in the Christmas holidays.
Hope your ds feels better soon.

yes, sounds like foot and mouth. The worst is still to come, when it hits the mouth and they get ulcers all over their mouth. Lots of calpol and cold drinks are about all you can do for them. It's very contagious and you too can get it, so wash hands lots.

I agree with SofiaAmes - sounds very very likely to be foot and mouth. As she says, it is very contagious and adults can easily catch it if they have not had it as a child. I caught it from my DD and was worse than her - ended up relying on a local anaesthetic throat spray to cope with the sore throat and felt dreaful for ages.
I would get a stock of ide lollies in for your DS to suck on to help his sore throat (not all children get the throat symptoms but most seem to and they are usually the more painful ones, particularly if it infects the tonsils). Calgel is useful for the mouth - like calpol but meant to be a topical teething gel and great on a sore mouth for little ones - safer than using a lot of bonjela (according to my GP). Hope he is feeling better soon and no one else comes down with it.

sorry - meant "ice lollies" not ide !! I must start typing slower and previewing. Always rushing as I should be working

Sorry to hear this Mez, hope he gets better soon.

Is it doing the rounds then ?? It's seems to be cropping up an awful lot at the mo. Must keep my ears open to see if anyone at school has it.

My kids all have this, DD1 got it on saturday, DD2 got it yesterday and DS has got it today.... anyone know how long it last?

mez75 · 05/05/2004 12:30

Been to the doctors, Yes it is Hand, foot and mouth! He now has quite big, fluid filled blisters in the joints between fingers & toes and on heels and soles of feet. He wont let me gonear his mouth but could see somthing on his tounge when he was asleep! Have stocked up on Calpol, calgel and mini milk ice lollies (thanks for the tips StripyMouse).
Think it must be doing the rounds nutty, doc said he had seen a few cases reacently.
Thanks for all the advice

mieow, supposed to last less than a week - bet it varies - but it was the inside of a week for ds.

ds got his a week before dd was due, so just in case anyone reading this has a new baby/is about to produce, I specially asked whether there's any need to be concerned around very new babies & dr said not at all.

Nutcracker · 05/05/2004 16:17

Oh no, hope he feels better soon Mez. Doesn't sound very nice at all poor thing. Hopefully it won't last too long.

Nutcracker · 10/05/2004 12:06
