Need advice on how to get my dd to drink

My dd who is 3 next month has just been diagnosed with oral thrush, been given nystatin and I have been asked to bring a urine sample in because she has a temp.

Problem is she is spending most of the day and night in floods and floods of tears, refusing to eat or drink because it hurts and screaming in pain anytime she drinks anything. Just missed her first wee because I couldn't get the bottle in time and I doubt she will be weeing again any time soon because she is refusing.

Any advice on how to get her to drink, we've tried bribing her but nothing works she just crys, screams no and cries some more.

How about some ice lollies, jelly, or watermelon? Cool, soothing and loads of fluid

Tried lollies she puts it in her mouth once screams and refuses to touch it again. She is refusing anything and everything. She has been pretty much crying since 5pm yesterday and hasn't eaten a thing since Sunday.

She's eaten half a frube. Sort of result! Just need her to drink now.

Can you get her to wee on the potty next time? Poor little soul, hope she feels better soon.

Has she had some painkillers?

Yep, She's been having calpol and nystatin but the calpol doesn't seem to be working and only had the nystatin since yesterday afternoon so can't really judge it yet.

I will try and get her to see on the potty, trouble I'm having is she is refusing all drinks so she isn't weeing like normal. She's also exhausted she's only had about 4 hours sleep last night and she was up at 4.30am yesterday. She goes to sleep then about 10 mins later she wakes up crying.

Just tried her on spaghetti loops, one mouthful and now she is in bits again. Won't drink anything.

If she isn't weeing then I think you need to get that addressed, irrespective of urine sample. I'd keep on with yoghurt, frubes, ice cream, they all are largely liquid. But if she really won't drink you need to get her seen.

Can you get some nurofen into her? Poor thing, it's obviously really painful.

She weed at 2pm yesterday then nothing til today about 11/12ish but didn't get it in time to take th sample. She's had on drugs, a mouthful of milk and a mouthful of water but as soon as she puts something in her mouth she starts screeching. She's just constantly crying and whimpering in pain but I'm at a loss. She was only seen yesterday at 5 so I'm not sure what they can do, as he said wait a few days for the nystatin to kick in. Just hate seeing her so distressed. I also suffer for, hypochondria and trying so desperately trying not to project it on my dd.

She's not on drugs, she had a frube! Not sure how that happened.

The nurofen might work better. Would drinking through a straw help, I'm sure you thought of that. I'd try any drink, fizzy, sugary whatever! Stuff like spaghetti hoops has tomato sauce, that might hurt more. Fruit juices are acidic also so they might 'hurt' more if the mouth is inflammed.
So plainer foods or dairy will work better, strawberry milk or chocolate milk. You could try distracting her with a DVD while trying to get her to drink.

Tried a straw which didn't help. Took her back to the doctors today who have diagnosed her with a nasty viral mouth infection (big long name that I cannot remember).

He said it's going to get worse before it gets better, another 7 days probably l, it's utter agony and some children need to be admitted to hospital because of not drinking enough.

He said to try flat lemonade, coke, luxcozade and gave an anesthetic spray to use throughout the day to hopefully taken the edge off and get a little drink down her.

I looked after a little girl who had exactly what you've described. After days of agony and worry we discovered that banana milk (1 over ripe banana blended to high heaven with 500ml of milk and 2Tbsp plain yoghurt) and flat lucozade were the only things she could manage. Soy and almond milk was ok for just a few mouth fulls. Everything at room temp.
I'll never forget the neighbours face when at 2am I knocked to ask if they had over ripe bananas! (they did !)

Oh, the poor wee thing :(

The viral infection sounds like hand, foot and mouth, Strawberry. I caught it when the boys brought it home from nursery and my mouth really bloody hurt - it was a big mass of ulcers. Definitely avoid anything acidic. It didn't sound much like thrush because DS1 had that for a while, after taking a steroid inhaler and it didn't bother him too much - itched more than stung, despite leaving scars on his tongue.

It definitely wasn't hand foot and mouth l (although that's what I thought it was too) it was a really long medical name that baffled me

Thankfully the anesthetic spray seems to have done the trick. After she had some at tea time she managed a full drink, a wee and she stopped crying and whimpering and starred to talk full conversations like normal (shed only been saying one word answers since Sunday night!)
