MIRENA COIL FOR 1 YEAR...ODD PERIODS! HELP?

Hi ladies

have started reading the mirena coil thread, but at 650 posts...i just don;t have the time!

basically, have had mirena coil for 13 months.....all has been fine except

the last 3 -4 months...

my periods, although light, are not regular, lot of brown blood ( sorry if TMI ) and don;t last long at all....

is it possible my cycle is shorter now ....or are my periods grinding to a halt altogether? if they are, not a problem as don;t want any more children......( at the moment!!)

other contraception not really available

condoms - don't feel 'safe ' enough

pill - strong DVT issues in our family

implants/ injections - too many negatives for me

sterilisation - too young

so would like to keep coil..just a bit concerned about my periods now being irregular..and brown ( old) blood??

grateful for any advice...xxxx

Its normal for your cycle to become irregular and a lot of the time stop altoghether with the mirena due to the progesterone. It has similar side effects to the mini pill. Can take a while for things to change too!

Oooo I'm pleased to read this. I too have been on Mirena for a year, my periods are much lighter and my cycle much shorter too. Blood more brown too (lovely). Hope this is of some comfort, I imagine it's normal.

lulumama · 13/11/2006 19:20

ok..thanks......! as long as it is not just me!!

Had mine for about 2½ years now (I think ). My periods also all over the place - sometimes go for several months with nothing and then a show and then a big one (IYKWIM). But sounds fine to me.

lulumama · 13/11/2006 19:23

right then.....definitely not just me!!! so odd to have virtually no periods at 31!

Normal to be erratic and if I bleed now, it tends to be brown and light.

lulumama · 14/11/2006 14:25

thanks all... feel much better now...this period barely 48 hours!!

thanks for the reassurance..will stick with the coil for now ! xxx

I am having the Mirena coil fitted next week and have been searching MN for a thread. Could you possibly post a link to the original Mirena thread??

Thanks

After having the Mirena fitted, I had very reduced periods for six months (barely worth a ST), then three years of no periods whatsoever.

I believe almost anything from slightly reduced to utterly absent is considered normal for Mirena.

thanks duchesse...x

flumpy..will do a link tomorrow..can't cut & paste on lap top!
