Personally I wouldn't, as you can't tell how much he has sicked up - more than you think might have stayed down.

Have you called NHS Direct? I'd be inclined to get their advice here, as vomiting with fever is more serious to my mind than either on its own.

lulumama · 11/11/2006 21:42

have you tried tepid bathing and flannels to cool too...

BIGlilBUBU · 11/11/2006 21:42

Agree, he sounds quite unwell. Get him to a doctor.

chlochlo · 11/11/2006 21:43

phoned them this morning but they said it was just a virus and there was nothing they could give him.

Give him a wet flanner to suck on - if he's old enough to co-operate. That way water goes into him, without it being in large enough quantity to irritate his stomach and trigger a puke.

chlochlo · 11/11/2006 21:54

should i ring nhs again or will they just say same thing

munz · 11/11/2006 21:55

i'd ring them again tbh, and if you're not happy go to A&E, how long has he been like this? has he kept any water at least down today?

chlochlo · 11/11/2006 22:02

just came on suddenly at about 10 this morning he has had a drink but thrown up shortly after. He's not really moved off the setee or my knee.

Do you have a fan you could put on.

Definately call doc, sounds like things have changed since the morning.

If he starts to shiver and complain of being cold (even though you can feel he's hot), try not to cover him up too much, as his body will be fighting a fever.

Have been through this a few weeks ago with one of my children.

Gillian76 · 11/11/2006 23:06

If he's vomiting water, try giving 5mls water every 5 mins. That way he's more likely to absorb it and it will stay down.

I wouldn't give any more meds til they're due. But if the temp's not coming down or you're really worried get some professional advice. Things change very quickly with children. They won't mind you calling back.

Snowstorm · 11/11/2006 23:09

Agree that you shouldn't give any more medicine as you don't know how much was puked up. I'm sure I read somewhere that if a child is sick then try not to give them any liquid or anything for a bit because otherwise their stomach will be rejecting that and they'll be throwing that up too.

Don't know what 39c is (I used degrees F) but regardless of what your doctor said this morning, if you aren't happy with how it's going then call NHS direct and double check whether there's anything else you could be doing to help.

Hope he gets better very soon - it's really horrid when they are so unwell isn't it.

chlochlo · 12/11/2006 09:32

Hi all phoned nhs again last night said i could give more medicine cos in hospital they give it in weight. said if things didnt improve in the next hour to take him straight to a&e.Well things did improve had a restless night but seems brighter this morning so fingers crossed.

so glad things are looking on the up

hope he feels better soon

louii · 12/11/2006 14:42

I find paracetamol suppositories a handy thing to keep in medicine box.
If the wee one is vomitting calpol etc back up it is a godsend.

Glad he feeling better today.
