2 and a half years ago, I had my daughter by emergency c section. About a week later my scar became infected. They gave me antibiotics for it and it healed up perfectly. However, now I'm having real problems. The scar is healed but I have never had problems like this before. It's very very red, it smells, super sore. Coughing hurts and bending hurts. I am overweight weighing in at about 15-16 stone at age 20. I took myself to the doctor and they said to put this cream on it and it should clear up. I used it once and it actually did not help at all. I used talc to try to dry it out as it's constantly wet (not sure if that's from sweating or weeping or both!) Anyway it's back now with a vengeance and I don't want to go back to the docs as clearly it's a waste of time. Has anyone else had anything like this? Please no judging as I'm brand new to this!!

Sorry you're suffering. I also had an EMCS with initial mild infection which was treated with cream. Not sure if it's the same stuff of course (and I can't remember the name as was nearly 3 years ago) but I had to use it for a few days to treat the infection. I'd say that using it once, expecting it to solve the problem immediately and then giving up is a pretty bad idea (unless that's what you were told to do of course). If you still have the cream try finishing the course. If not return to the GP because it sounds like you'll need someone on prescription.

Sorry, I worded it badly. What I meant was I put it on once before bed, when I woke up it was 10 times worse and I could barely bend to get out of bed.
The thing is, I would have thought that cleaning it would calm it down but actually last night when I got out the shower it was even more red and angry before. I don't get it! :(

I got septicaemia two weeks after a hysterectomy and was really ill. Had a large pocket of onfection that took several weeks to drain.
Please go and get this seem to. I was at the docs anyway when they spotted the infection and was sent straight to gynae

I don't think that the talc will be helping, I also think that you should go back to the doctor as you may need a different cream or antibiotics.

Sounds like thrush, which can be really read add angry. Do you have an 'apron?'

My advice would be to go back to the GP obviously but once you have this sorted keep clean and very dry and use canesten cream or sudacreme at the slightest hint of soreness.

Poor you get yourself back to the doctors first thing.

I have an area around an old laparoscopy scar which sometimes gets red, wet, sore and smelly. Now I put sudacrem on it at the first sign of a flare and it sorts it out. But yours sounds really established and infected, so I'd go back to the GP in case there is infection hiding.

Sounds like you need antibiotics. Definitely go back to the doctor. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Do you have a bit of over hang with the scar? It's pretty common, even if you are normal weight. It's easy to get a mixed fungal / bacterial infection in these skin creases: babies (including mine) get them in their neck folds. You really need a special cream (we used daktarin which I think was prescription only). In the mean time Try to dry it very well but gently (maybe with a hair dryer) and then apply sudocreme.

You can buy Daktarin but do agree OP needs to rule out infection with the doctor first.

I had an infected scar a few weeks after my c-section (16 years ago).

A few weeks ago, I had exactly the same symptoms as you're describing, which seemed to be on the scar line. I went to the GP, and it turned out it was a fungal infection. I am slightly overweight (about 1 stone) and have a bit of "overhang". It was getting sweaty and infected but it wasn't the scar itself, it's just in a "crease" which happens to be where the scar is, iyswim.

A fungal cream sorted it out for me, but it did take a couple of weeks to clear up completely. Do persevere with the cream, but also go and see the GP again just to make sure there's nothing else going on.

Thanks everyone, I will go back to the docs and ask for more cream. It really hurts to bend and at work recently I have been doing a lot of lifting and carrying. This has happened before and I just tried to keep it dry (my doctor is useless and makes me feel like I'm wasting his time which is why I am reluctant to go back). It gets sore even if I'm just walking. When I take my knickers off they are soaked at the top and if they are resting on it, it's so sore when I move them. Unfortunately I have a large 'overhang' Which moved lower after I had my daughter (I can't even see my privates!) so making sure I lift my tummy up to air the infection out is so important but I b and just sit like that all the time. So I will go back to the doctors and say it hasn't gone away, just got worse and try the cream again.

I sometimes get this almost 18 years after my C section although not as bad as yours sounds. I use sudeocream on mine it's gone the next day.

I think sudocrem is amazing. Will give it a go. Got nothing to lose! Thank you everyone, it's really getting me down. I feel quite depressed and self conscious about it. Supposed to be going swimming with family on Tuesday, don't know if I can now. The weird thing is, I have just left it and it's dried up itself (sort of) not as painful. Still smells and my underwear still gets wet at the top. I don't get how it heals itself but it will come back...

I weigh a similar amount to you, have had 2 CS (8 years ago and almost 5) and I also have an overhang. Generally I find Lanacane powder is better than talc as it is more absorbent, but first you need to clear any infection.

I really would not go swimming- it will be painful and can make (what's sounds like an infection?) worse.
You need to keep it clean and dry and go to your GP, as previous poster mentioned ask to see a different one if necessary.
You will probably need antibiotics, feel better soon.

Are you showering every day and drying really well?

I think Lanacane talc is a good suggestion to keep it dry.

I don't get this, it has cleared up by itself. I have not used any cream since I posted this, no tablets or anything (a little bit of talc when it first got infected). If I go to the doctor now he won't believe me... :(

I have had this but without the pain and it was a fungal infection and I used daktacort cream to sort it. Your Dr doesn't sound very helpful, could you see someone different?

I am 10th week pregnant having herpes simplex virus. now doctor sujjested acivir 200 dt *4 in a day.... Is it safe or not in these days? And it will effect to baby or should I continue? Please help me.... M in confusion 😥

Could it be a sweat rash where your scar is rather then the scar itself? Would be same location and talc would help clear it up.
