crohns

has anyone here got crohns disease? i have had stomache probs for years and always been ref to gyenea. finally, although private i have seen an gastroenterologist...........mouth full. i am due to have a colonoscopy on monday and im not looking forward to it. so if anyone can advise me or comfort me, please reply

if thats where they put the thingy up your bum then my friend had one, think she was more embarassed than in pain

hi. did the gastro say if he thought it was crohns u had? it might be something else like IBS.
there are a few ppl on here with chrons. maybe they will reply soon.

my mates test was for ibs not crohns

i had a colonoscopy...sedated...don;t remmeber a thing... diagnosed with crohns 4 years ago after years of problems...easily controlled with medication.....

what do you wnat to know??

hi, don't worry about the colonoscopy, it's painless and as lulumama says you are sedated so don't know a thing about it. I had a few cramps afterwards but not a bad as my periods.
Sorry for the thread hjack unhappy but...lulumama, biopsy came back, not IBS but IBD, not sure which one yet maybe catch you later for some advice/support after I've had my recall, if you don't mind.
Unhappy, not knowing what's wrong is the worse bit and the waiting, but once we know, it has to better than living with the symptoms and guessing, don't you think.

as you say, it is the not knowing that is worse...the test is really not that bad...

you will be windy afterwards, and a bit woozy...but not terribly incapacitated....its a good excuse to lie on the sofa for 24 hours...!!

you won't be able to drive yourself home, so make sure someone can collect you.....

thanks ev1 its not the test im worried about its the day before! that yucky stuff ive got to drink! what symptoms did you have lulumama? how many years did you have probs? i have had these for about 15 years! ive recently been diagnosed with M.E too. im not on alot as i have a hectic life, so i will keep check and reply when i can. thanks again ev1

huge amount of pain & bleeding when going to the loo.....constant diarrohea ....like 20 times a day at its worst...weight loss....constant raised temperature...exhausted & ill all the time....nausea & vomiting....generally not well.....very unpleasant....but easily controlled my mezalazine.....not had an attack for a long time......not taking meds anymore either as stoppped when pg with DD and have been ok since....it can go into remission for long periods of time...but it cannot be cured IFYSWIM....i am lucky, no surgery required....

the stuff you have to drink before the test is a bit vile...but i didn;t find it so bad...and had one clear out , as it were! then no more.....some people find it more explosive than others! make sure you are near a loo..

i also had a barium meal ...had to drink some very odd chalky stuff and then had my upper GI tract x rayed to assess the amount of my system affected.......and it is only in my bowel....quite extensively but not too much damage has been casused....

the barium meal was a seperate day to the colonoscopy....and was not painful or unpleasant in any way...

i first started having syptoms when i was 15, and diagnosed 4 years ago.....so had 12 years of syptoms and was told i had piles(!) , glandular fever, IBS and that i had nothing wrong with me at all!!!!!!!!!!! still...sorted now!
