No period for 6 months?

For a friend

Hi all,

I haven't had a period since 13th January 2015. I never really experienced any pain associated with it, until now. I went to see my GP after the 3rd period I missed, because this is the recommended time you should wait. My GP said it was ''just hormones''. I took this answer thinking nothing of it, however, months went on and I'd now missed 6 periods so I went to see him again. He said ''As I explained before, it's just hormones as you're so young''.

I'm sorry but I no longer can take his word for it because next month will be the 7th period I have missed. Also, I have the most excruciating period pains but of course no period. The pains started about two weeks ago.

I'm certainly not pregnant too, because I have taken countless tests, all with my morning urine and with anything from cheap tests to expensive ones, and still no positive.

My weight is healthy, there has been no change. My diet is also healthy and I do not do extreme exercise or anything. I'm also certainly not stressed, I'm very calm and relaxed about the whole thing. In fact, I usually just forget about the situation completely until another month roles round and still no period. Oh and of course now I'm starting to worry because of how much pain I'm in.

Thank you, really need some advice!

Have you been or are you on the pill?
Try and see a different GP as they really should be looking into it. They should at least to blood tests to check you hormone levels and swabs to check for any infections and possibly and ultrasound to check everything looks ok.

How old are you for the doctor to say that? I can't tell whether you are 12 or 25.

No, never been on the pill and I'm 18 x

Go to a sexual health clinic, they will have seen more women's issues than your gp and will probably be able to point you in the right direction

you need a hormone profile (blood test) go back to the gp and tell him this or see a different gp as this current one clearly isn't listening.

Go to a female GP for a start! I never trust men to have the sympathy for things like this whether they're effing qualified or not. But it is common for women to have this and it have no effect. If it is bothering you, go back to a female GP, you might actually get a more satisfying answer.
