The white of my eye has gone red - it looks very odd!

I'm trying to decide if I need to see a GP or the optician?

I'm kind of leaning towards the optician but I've had a rotten headache for days so I wondered if I should maybe try the GP

Dithering

Which way would you go?

Conjunctivitis? See pharmacist.

TurnOverTheTv · 15/05/2015 08:08

Sounds like you've burst a blood vessel. Nothing to worry about, but I'd pop down to the optician to get it looked at quickly

Katymac · 15/05/2015 08:08

I thought that makes your eye lids very red

Yes pharmacist might help

It can also be called pink eye.
I have had it a few times and the entire white of my eye is red/pink.
Is it itchy or any discharge?

gamerchick · 15/05/2015 08:18

Go to your opticians... They specialise in eyes and will tell you if you need a doctor or not.

Katymac · 15/05/2015 08:18

It's a bit stingy & blurry but not very blurry

Actually the other eye is hurting and now I feel dizzy

I phoned the GP & they are going to ring me back

Definitely do see someone Katy. A painful red eye needs to be looked at properly (though could just be conjunctivitis or a burst vessel). Many A&Es run some form of 'eye casualty' for problems like this.

Katymac · 15/05/2015 09:37

I phoned the surgery to ask for advise (I suggested opticians or pharmacy) & they want to see me at 11:30

The blurriness is the problem

Allergy - probably hayfever

I need another allergy like I need a hole in my head

I get allergic conjunctivitis when I use my utterly favourite face cream. Never found a face cream that did the job like that one since.

It might be worth ruling stuff out if you haven't started using something new recently.

He thinks it's rape seed as my whole body is itching & I thought I had dandruff in my hair & eyebrows

But no - it's allergy Sad

Gah that rape seed is a horrible thing, my throat feels like it's been scrubbed down with wire wool whenever I venture anywhere near it, poor you Angry

It sounds like a sub- conjuctival haemorrhage, usually absolutely benign and self limiting. Looks alarming but gradually abates within a few days. Can cause blurriness, but not always. Best to get it checked out though, esp if you have other symptoms

Katymac · 15/05/2015 18:44

It's been light sensative all day & it sort of aches when don't look straight forward - but it definitely eased after the anti-histamine

And the swelling round my eye has really gone down too

So I am feeling much brighter :)
