Lump in armpit late pregnancy/ post partum

Hello everyone.

I discovered a lump in my right armpit when I was 37 weeks pregnant. Quite small.

I'm not 3 weeks post partum and exclusively breastfeeding, the lump has increased in size! It's relatively painless.

I mentioned it to my midwife and she said it was probably a milk duct. I accepted this BUT I've just completed a course of anti biotics for mastitis and assumed it would clear it up but if anything it's bigger!

I only wax under my arms, never shave... If this could make any difference? I haven't waxed under arms since discovering the lump though (about 3 days after my last waxing!)

I've applied some tiger balm to the area just now to see if this helps clear it.

Does anyone else have any experience of this? I'm awful for health anxiety after having cancer (osteosarcoma) at age 18. Doesn't help that I've just given birth so ultra sensitive/ hormonal as it is!

Thank you

It does really sound like a milk duct. This is normal - some mums have lots of them.

Taking antibiotics for mastitis will kill off any infection, but what's in your lump is milk, not infection. It should settle down over the next couple of weeks.

It's been there 6 weeks? Maybe get a routine appointment to get it checked by your GP. If it's gone by the time it goes you can cancel the appointment.

I had a one milk duct in each armpit. With each of my dc's it would return. The first midwife I had told me that were boils so I squeezed them. It's got quite a range on it! Needless to say they didn't clear up until I stopped bf. I was told by a better different midwife with dc2 what they were.
But if you are concerned then do go and get it checked out. I doubt the Dr will begrudge you some reassurance.
And congrats on the little one Flowers

Thank you everyone! Flowers

I'm sure it really is just a milk duct but I'm a dreadful worried. I'm going to phone tomorrow and ask someone to look at it.

Bloody health anxiety!
