Can't carry on like this...

... I have a sore mouth. The patch behind my front teeth. Feels like it is swollen and possibly a lump but it's really hard to see properly.

I'm a very recent ex smoker and a drinker. Both factors which massively increase the risk of mouth cancer.

I have other lumps and bumps around that area and I am so frightened. This has been ongoing on and off for months now.

I can't carry on like this. I am too scared to go to the doctor or the dentist. Although I went for a check up at the dentist a couple of months ago and am clinging onto the hope that he would have noticed something.

I can't carry on like this. I am so petrified that I cannot even put it into words. What do I do??

Well, I have a tooth thing going on that's quite grim and painful. We could hold hands, and you could be really brave and see the dentists this week? There's nothing worse than NOT knowing what is wrong. I'm a recent ex smoker too and have had sore, swollen and bleeding gums. A hygienist visit helped loads.

Oral cancers usually start as white or red patches and depressed painless ulcers that don't heal, rather than lumps. Most likely this is benign cyst, trauma or infection. However you need to get it checked out, by your dentist, and get some reassurance, and whatever treatment necessary. Please do as Crispy says and make an appointment this week. Corsodyl mouthwash and/or toothpaste might help, but please see your dentist.
