Can I take three packets of the pill back to back?

I use microgynon.

Last month, I didn't take my break as I was on holiday so started my next pack immediately. I am due to start my break today. However, I will come on on Monday and have a period for a week solid. I am going to London next weekend and it'll involve lots of walking etc and I don't really want the inconvenience of having to find loos for changing etc.

Will there be any adverse effects if I have a third packet?

I think you can take them back to back for as long as you want can't you? Something about the bleed being for reassurence or something? ( happy to be corrected though)

That does sound familiar! Thank you :) x

What gamerchick says is correct. The bleed is not a proper period anyway as you have not ovulated. I've taken my pill back to back for years now as I have Endometriosis.
If you want to do it ongoing you might be worth going to your doctors just to make sure you're on the right pill if you don't want a break in between.

Thank you, rookie. I feel a little better about continuing with it this month x

I take 3 packets in a row (endometriosis). I have a break after 3rd packet as otherwise I get breakthrough bleeding. That can be a problem of running packs together - breakthrough bleeding.

I take it back to back every month and have done for years. I'm on microgynon too. I was advised to do this by my doctor

I used to bleed like a stuck pig if I had sex when running more than two packets of microgynon together. I think I would consider having a break after the weekend away as though you had just finished a pack. Then restart after a week's break as normal iyswim.

Thanks ladies. I must admit, I do have "period pains" despite having carried on with taking the pill, so I will see what happens with it x

it is ok to take complete packs back to back. Do NOT take random breaks unless you want your periods stopped by pregnancy.

I've done this. The only thing is I find it can make me very hormonal.

I had horrendous periods in my teens thanks to PCOS. Even when I was on the pill, they were still awful. I saw a very well respected and experienced gynae in London who said that it is perfectly fine to 'back pack' pills. I am also on microgynon. I've been doing this for years and no issues whatsoever. I am so much happier this way.
