ds1 who was always getting nosebleeds had his nose cauterized a few mnths ago and so far so good except....now, he has started with one and its quite heavier than they ever were. he is sat here pinching his nose at the nostrils as he used to do (he's 11)
when do i worry?

I'd give it half an hour to an hour, depending on how heavy it is.

If it's still the same after that I'd prob go to the walk-in centre/a&e.

Phone NHS Direct for advice?

cheeryface · 07/11/2006 21:03

you could try putting some ice on it to relieve the pressure

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/11/2006 21:12

I'd get him seen to. Its been nearly 15 minutes now.

cheeryface · 07/11/2006 21:15

we are keeping the pressure on and will check soon to see if it's stopped, have also put some ice cubes in kitchenroll on bridge of nose.

how is it now..? Like vvv said, if its still bleeding I would get him to a&e.

cheeryface · 07/11/2006 21:30

seems to have stopped.
do we need to get it sorted if it bleeds intermittently or is it just half hour non stop bleeding?

Dh's often think like that, I know mine does!

At the end of the day you have to go with your instincts as a mum... how heavy is the bleeding now?

cheeryface · 07/11/2006 21:57

it's stopped now, hopefully for the second and last time . have sent him up to bed . ouldn't be surprised if there is a repeat performance during the night though because most of the nosebleeds he used to get before started in his sleep.

I might be a bit late for this, but thought I'd add my little bit. I used to get big nosebleeds when I was young (about 7-10) and had to have my nose cauterised twice, it doesn't always work first time. I should take him to see the GP if he's still getting them.

southeastastra · 08/11/2006 18:34

how is he today cheeryface?

cheeryface · 08/11/2006 22:42

he has been o.k today although he looked rather dark under he eyes tis morning.

tonight it's ds2(7) he has gone to bed saying his throat, tummy and head feel poorly. trouble is he is hopeless at explaining what is wrong so it is guesswork.always some one to worry about!
