Need to wee all the time, but not cystitus

I thought I had cystitis, so went to doctor and got 3 days of antibitics, whIch worked but a couple of days later it cane back. I went to the doctor who said my urine was clear and maybe it was thrush so gave me a pessary and cream.

Can thrush make you feel like you need to wee constantly? I don't have any external symptoms of thrush. I just have pain in my lower pain and pain in my bladder. Anyone experience something like this? I'm hoping it's not interstitial cystitis as it's only been five weeks so far so hopefully I can find a cause!

Why don't you ring the GP and ask them to clarify instead of asking for diagnosis by internet?? ASk them to send a lab test and speak to them again in a few days then you'll have a reliable qualified answer.

Could it be unstable bladder? I have it, but don't get any pain. May be worth ruling out.

Threas, why are you here if you don't think chatting to others on forums is valuable? I'm only looking for similar experiences. I had a good chat with my doctor and if the thrush treatment doesn't work he suggested to book myself in for swab test next week, so I'm happy with that, just thought it might be helpful to hear other people say what caused painful bladder for them.

I have no advice, but suffering from something similar (although its on and off for me, not constant) so keen to see any (helpful) responses you get. I havent been to gp yet but booking an appt today. You arent alone anyway, its a bit shit isnt it?!

MugsLife has neither mentioned the word 'diagnosis' in her thread title or in her message. She merely wants to ask if anyone has had similar symptoms or experiences. She has clearly stated that she has sought advice from her GP.

Is that ok?

I have IC, I was sent back and forth between 2 or 3 GP's as mine wasn't around at the time. I had 5 types of antibiotics which of course all did nothing I was then referred to a urologist when I got to see my GP. Never had thrush so can't comment on that bit. Has your diet changed at all? Or anything else in your life? More stress? What I have learnt from having IC is that many things can affect the bladder. I wouldn't jump to the IC diagnosis just yet.

Hi mugs life, did you actually have an infection at all the first time- was urine tested?
I'm having similar symptom and no uti- I constantly feel like I need to pee although i can hold it for hours. It's just like the sensation is there all the time. Is that the same as you or are you actually going more frequently. Do you have any other synptoms like skin conditions- eczema etc - in that general area. That's my gynaes best guess for mine at moment that uncontrolled eczema in private areas may have irritated urethra. I'm
Not so sure so going to push for testing for low grade infection which I believd can be hard to detect if not cultured for longer than the standard 3 days in the lab. Sorry, not much help but I would say don't take antibiotics or thrush remedies unless actually tested & shown to have them as they can add to the problem

Nmg85 - diet hasn't really changed, but I know I'm a total stress-head and that used to give me ibs, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was stress-related (but would hate it to be). I have just developed alopecia too which is probably stressed related.
Royalair - it wasn't an infection apparently, I left a urine sample which the doctor said was clear on the second visit and did another one there and then which was clear, so there musn't have been an infection.
Ezcema is surprising, I guess there are so many things that cause issues. I don't have any issues there that are really obvious.
Yes, I would be able to hold it, but the longer I do the more uncomfortable it gets and it becomes hard to concentrate, so I have to go. The more distracted I get the longer I can last. The cystitus relief sachets actually help, but painkillers don't.

That's very interesting mugs life as it sounds just like me in that being distracted makes it easier but it's hard to stay distracted 100 per cent of the time
I'm getting in touch with my gynae again today hoping for another appt and can let you know what she says. Also I am a major stress head so maybe there's a link too.

I've had this for about five years now.

Have been diagnosed as having an occult bacterial biofilm infection. Local hospital said my ursine was clear and I didn't have an infection.

But I knew I had an infection as I have leucocytes show up on a dipstick test and antibiotics always help. Stop the antibiotics and it comes back.

I'm now part of a research trial having finally found an Nhs professor who says I have got an infection and the local hospital are talking rubbish. Have been in high dose antibiotics for nearly a year now.

Hopefully yours isn't this bad but what I wanted to say is don't believe a hospital lab that says you haven't got an infection. The prof I'm under says standard tests miss 90% of urine infections. He treats on symptoms rather than lab results. He says if you feel like you have an infection then you've got an infection.

Wow viva that's very interesting. Have the antibiotics helped you?

I keep having flare ups but Prof says that's to be expected. To be honest the flare often coincide if ive forgotten to take my meds for a day or two.

So yes, they're working to keep the symptoms at bay. whether it's curing me I don't know. prof is confident he will cure me but he says as ive had it for so long it will take time.

Thanks for sharing viva, that is really interesting. I asked the doctor if an infection would always show up in a urine test and he said yes, always. And I asked how the antibiotics could have worked for a few days, but he says that it's possible, but I don't see how (other than huge coincidence or strong placebo effect).
I think the dip stick checks for cells, and he said there were none, so that probably means no leucocytes too? I'm not sure what to think really.

I noticed something unusual down there yesterday too - a flap of skin that wasn't there before. Could easily be nothing, but I'm going to have to get that looked at too. Fed up of going to the doctors already, I was there just now having a blood test for fybroid function.

Well the top urology Dr in the country would disagree with your gP.about the lab tests being accurate.

It was the abx working which made me realise I must have an infection no matter what they said.

Viva - what are your symptoms? I only have the pain in my bladder, and pain in lower back, but no stinging or discomfort when I wee, I just never feel fully empty. I also don't think the pain is that bad most of the time, just annoying as it's always there and pain killers don't affect it.

It doesn't hurt when I wee but my bladder constantly aches, feeling of pressure. It's worse at night.

This is how I've been, suspected uti, trimethoprim for three days then thrush symptoms. Thrush medicines worked but not fully and still had mild symptoms. Now on a months worth of antifungals taking one a week for four weeks. I think it takes a while to feel better. X

Vivalebeaver do you mind if I ask how the biofilm was diagnosed? Is it a urine test too? And is it send to lab and how long for? I had my urine checked last week again & still clear and at lab too. I'm starting to think it's in my head

This may sound a little nuts, but I realised that some of the pain is in my clitoris! Touching it seems to set off the pain that I've been feeling in my bladder and in my pelvis. I googled it and found some people talking about it being linked to interstitial cystitis... This is all so weird. I've booked a swab test on Monday, so I'll have to mention it and hope they don't look at me like I'm crazy...

That's interesting mugs life. Would love to know how you get on. What are you getting swabbed if you don't mind me asking. Presume u mean high vaginal swab??

I had these symptoms a couple of years ago. A feeling of constant fullness in the bladder, needing to wee a lot especially at night, feeling like the bladder was full to bursting but only able to pass a dribble! No UTI, it all came back clear and no pain or stinging when passing water. Doc did an internal as I'm menopausal and said it felt very dry 'down there'. Prescribed oestrogen only HRT (locally applied) and it sorted the problem straight away. Just mentioning it in case you are peri-menopausal.

Vaginal swab yes, doctor didn't say a specific type and I had to book it myself so who knows if it's the right thing.

That's interesting noregrets - I hope it's not to do with the menopause. I'm 33 and still have regular periods and wanting to try for another baby soon.

However, I do wonder if it could be hormonal changes? I breastfed for three years and stopped in March, and this all happened soon after. I have a bald patch on my head and developed psoriasis on my hands neither of which I've had before. Maybe these are no coincidences!

Mugs life that's interesting because I had two babies in 3 years and just finished breastfeeding - although the symptoms started a couple of months before I stopped. But basically for the past 4 years I've been pregnant or breastfeeding. I'm going to say it to my gynae when I see her again in a couple of weeks.
