PILL TAKERS.....

Did/does it affect your weight?

I was once a size 12, now more of a 16/18 and not happy about it.

Apart from not eating overly well (too much snacking) could the Mycrogynon pill have affected my weight?

I have ceased taking it now, and am using condoms (which I hate but thats another story) so am I pinning my hopes on stopping it helping me to lose weight? Obviously have cut out crap and will eat 3 meals with only fruit in-between.

Your thoughts?

I asked my GP this and she looked at me as if I was clutching at straws

A friend of mine is convinced that certain brands of pill make her put on weight. How long have you been off the pill?

LaylaandSethsmum · 07/11/2006 22:00

Certain pills can make you put on weight but really only if you are 1- predisposed to putting on weight easily 2- you eat too much or eat the wrong things!
However being off the pill should help you loose weight more easily.
JARM have you thought about a coil? Very effective without the hormonal effects?

Sugarmagnolia · 08/11/2006 07:12

oh i hope not. microgynon is my last resort. have tried the mirena coil (which is hormonal) and every pill under the sun. was planning to start the microgynon tomorrow.

interested to hear what others have to say.

Im now on the mini pill, but would like to hear other peoples storys

LoveMyGirls · 08/11/2006 17:02

No pill will make you put on weight, but what some pills can do is change your appetite. Thus, if you suddenly feel hungrier, and eat more, you will put on weight. Microgygnon is the oldest, most researched, and safest combined pill which is why most women are put on it at first, however it is one of the ones which tends to change appetite. I would perhaps try changing to a different pill and see what happens. Yasmin is a new-ish pill, which can be quite good if you are one of the unlucky ones who have put a lot of weight on with other brands, as it also decreses fluid retention in most users. You are doing all the right things, such as cutting out the crap and eating 3 decent meals inbetween, so well done.

nailpolish · 08/11/2006 17:18

yes i agree

the pill doesnt make you put on weight, it increases your appetite so you therefore eat more

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 08/11/2006 17:19

i have noticed i am eating less, just in the 2 weeks or so since i stopped taking it.

weird thing the pill.... not using it again! may look into the coil, but it scares me!!!

nah

coil is easy peasy

Sugarmagnolia · 09/11/2006 08:55

I tried Yasmin and got very heavy periods on it.

I tried the mini-pill (new one - Cerazette) and have fluid-retention, spotty skin and periods every other week.

I tried the Mirena coil and had fluid-retention, spotty skin, periods every other week and lots of thrush-like irritation.

I'm afraid the copper coil as I hear it can cause heavy periods.

I tried nothing for a while and felt fine but it didn't do wonders for my sex life as you can imagine! but I"m not quite brave enough to do something permanent yet. Interestingly, however, although my periods were good and my skin cleared up without all the hormones I did not lose any weight.
