TMI alert - Menstrual flooding, can't feel Mirena, temperature 37.3

I have a GP appointment booked for a couple of hours' time but I am a bit worried so I thought I would come on here for words of wisdom and hopefully some sympathy.

I have had a Mirena coil for 4.5 years now and don't really have periods, just occasional spotting. Been delighted with it.

Last night I started gushing blood and getting period pain. We had to change the bedding and I had to get up every hour to change tampon/pad. Hardly slept. Took some ibuprofen which didn't seem to make much difference with blood flow or pain. Bright red blood. Can't feel strings of Mirena coil, cervix very low, lady garden feels puffy inside IYSWIM. A bit of a temperature at 37.3C but blood pressure normal. Pulse 76. Don't think it's likely to be an ectopic or an STD but I am Not Happy.

Have to chair meeting later of grumpy people at work who are currently falling out. If I can get there without leaving a Silence of the Lambs type trail of blood.

I don't have anything useful to add but will wipe up the trail of blood following you. Big black pants & black trousers?

Yup, wardrobe is exactly that today. Period burqua.

Have to see the gay emergency doctor who will look at lady gardens in a professional capacity, but clearly enjoys it as much as I would enjoy sticking my hand up a man's arse.

Mirena lasts for about five years or so, so it might not be working for you any more.

I'd go see a GP though.

Do you have some tranexamic acid? It might help with the bleeding for the time being.

I was thinking of asking the GP for some. I haven't needed any since this thing was put in.

I suppose the Mirena right be getting a bit tired. I had it put in under general anaesthetic and I am a bit scared of what might be involved in replacing it, pain wise.

Your coil might be displaced.

I had a copper coil for a few weeks and bled constantly- turns out it was half dislodged and easily whipped out. Never had another as insertion was difficult.

Right, Dr was lovely, did swabs and things, gave me tablets to reduce flow, very sympathetic and I have an appointment for a new Mirena fitting. Was able to get into work and it all went well.

Things continue to go well. I did sleep through last night and biology under control.
