I've had a cracking neck for some time. It's does hurt a bit and the bones appear to crack when I turn side ways. Does anyone know what this could be or the cause of this?

Oh lars - empathy!!!!

I ended up at hospital with a very sore neck yesterday. I pulled it last week and it's gone into spasm. It's still sore.

The hospital's advice - take Ibuprofen if I can(which I can mix with the painkillers I was already taking) and exercise my neck once an hour by turning it to the point of pain and back again ten times. I've not to hunch up and I've to try and relax the muscle. It may take time (it said 2-3 months on the advise sheet they gave me!)

I'm not a medically qualified person but thought I could pass on a few tips. Go and see the GP if it's carrying on.

I went to hospital because I couldn't get a GP appointment and I was in agony!

Take care x

dottee, i've had the sore neck like yourself a few years ago, It did heal really quicky about a week but at the time I was in agony. Somebody said my neck might be the sign of arthritis ( hope that spelt correctly). larsxx

dottee, sounds like tortecollis to me, did they mention that to you? Hurts like hell but all you can do is take the painkillers and wait for it to pass

Lars, if it hurts and the bones are making a cracking sound, you should see your doctor for a referral, could be a hundred and one things causing it, but probably nothing serious

Thanks lars and Lisa for your thoughts. No-one mentioned tortecollis (sounds like some nouvelle cuisine dish.)

I've felt very down this afternoon because of it - I think it's the 'co-dryds' kicking in. Even the ice cream lady wondered what was the matter. You've got me thinking lars - my mum suffers from arthritis. Oh the joys of old age and what we have to look forward to.

I'll take this opportunity to stuff the housework and get some rest i.e. look after me for a change!!!

Hope you get your neck sorted out soon lars.
