I just went to test my carbon monoxide alarm and it has gone off!!!
I felt yukky driving home, headachey and a bit sick, and still do now even though I have been home since about 4.45pm. Have I just annoyed it by trying to test it or do they only ever go off if a problem?
just cancelled british gas too.....
Might send hubby out for another one when he gets home at 7.20pm.
Will baby and I be okay until then?

I would call British Gas now and ask them.

3littlefrogs · 03/11/2006 19:03

Call british gas - they have a dedicated number for possible gas leaks. Don't take any risks.

WOuldn't alarm be continually going if there was problem, like smoke alarm?

Is there anywhere you can go (friend/relative) until someone can check it out.

If you think there is a problem and you have absolutely nowhere to go, open all the windows (you'll have to wrap up warm obv) and air the place. Carbon monoxide does kill though, I wouldn't risk it as baby more susceptible than you.

just a word of advice

if y9uo ring them for carbon monoxide, they ill disconnect you even if they dont find it as a precautiin then you wikl need to get corgi registered bloke out the next day....
so at least a night without gas,,,,

i would open windows etc as suggested and get another alarm tonight first

popsycal · 03/11/2006 19:07

or go out in car and get an alarm then test....

alexa1 · 03/11/2006 19:10

I don't have one in my house, will have to get one. If u are that concerned, drop the baby off around your parents/freinds/trusted neighbour and get yourself to the shops and buy one. most shops are open til late these days.

It's okay!!!

Thanks all.

Hubby just came in and said when you press to test the alram goes off and it is to show it works - like a smoke alarm.

Definitely get it checked tonight by either calling British Gas or going out and buying a new alarm.

We had suspected carbon monoxide in our old house. British Gas tell you to open all doors and windows and come out FAST . They will disconnect you.

It turned out we did have carbon monoxide so although it was bloody inconvenient being cut off I was so glad I got it checked.
