Can I ask about periods when you are early 40s ? Is this normal ?

I am 42. My periods are much heavier in the last year and lasting much longer.
I always had long (32ish) day cycles and light pain free periods that lasted 3 days.
My cycles are now shorter (26-28 days) and my periods are heavier and about twice as long. This has been for about the last year. I get a lot of sacro iliac pain around my period.
Is this normal at my age ? I hoped I was too young for peri menapause.
Should I see my gp about it or will I just get told that it is my age ?

I'm 39 and this has been my experience for the last year or so too. My family has history of early menopause and although my Dr wasn't too sure this was the cause, I'm pretty sure it is the start of it anyway! Have you had any other tests? Iron levels, thyroid etc? Might be worth asking..

I recently had a mirena fitted but it's not calming things down just yet - takes up to 6 months so will sit it out a bit longer. Is this an option for you?

Mini pill!
I love it, no periods, no pain, no pmt
I'm now in my 40's and I don't even think about periods anymore.

Yes sounds just like mine have been for at least a year - I'm 40. But had a Mirena put in in November and it's stopped my periods dead. I get a very mild cramping and a slight hint of browny discharge which lasts a few days now, worlds away from before. I wasn't keen on hormonal contraception having had problems with mini pills and implant in the past but I'm so glad I went for it.

I can't take the mini pill as progesterone turns me into a head spinning psycho bitch. Dp had the snip so I don't need contraception.
My family dont have a history of early menapause.
I just don't want it to get any worse !

This sounds a lot like my forties (so far). I only dealt with it because annual blood tests showed that I was very anaemic. My gp referred me for tests. An internal scan showed a fibroid. I also had weird pain in the same place.
