Ditto, though I used Mothercare's baby oil as I had some unopened and it smells nicer. Has the same effect - was all gone with three applications. And be gentle - only pick off the bits that are soft and come easily.

If you get a soft baby brush and brush the hair everyday this should keep it at bay...

I use the shampoo for cradle cap the cooking oil and a brush but my kids have all had it really thick takes about a week to go but it does come back with my kids if I dont continue using shampoo oh and I pick out the loose bits

Massage in baby oil, lift off bits that will come away with a fine tooth comb. Then shampoo a few times.

I used olive oil (interesting aroma!) overnight and then washed out the next morning.

I used vaseline - made for messy bedclothes, but did the trick!

Olive oil- covered my son's head in it for an hour earlier and washed it off in the bath. Most of it's washed out already.

yes MW suggested olive oil to me & it worked a treat. It also sorted out that post birth dry, flakey skin both mine had.

My Dd had cradle cap so i tried oil.
BUT, she had so much hair when she was born that just grew like wildfire, that it took alot of washes to get it out!
I tried the shampoo for cradle cap, i think its called Dentinox?? It worked like a charm.

parkinpud · 02/11/2006 20:14

I used Dentinox as well, got rid of it in a couple of weeks

foxinsocks · 02/11/2006 20:16

I think some children are more prone. Dd had it till she was nearly 5.

pesha · 02/11/2006 21:15

My dd had it till she was 5 too. Dentinox did nothing and hv said it can actually make it worse sometimes, she suggested olive oil left on overnight and it worked really well, it kept coming back mind but got rid of the worst of it.

Don't wash their hair too often - it strips the scalp of its natural oils.
I used olive oil with ds1 and discovered Dentinox with ds2. You have to keep using it to keep it at bay.
It smells lovely - I sometimes open a bottle up in Boots and have a crafty sniff, it brings back so many memories !
