UTI signs and symptoms, do these match?

I've never had a uti/kidney infection but have felt awful since yesterday and now think a uti could be the cause but Google is suggesting some other/additional symptoms.

I've got pelvic pain, kind of like a throbbing dull ache between my hip bones and it's painful to put pressure just above the pubic bone. I feel lethargic and generally achey. I've been weeing a fair bit but wouldn't say it's darker than normal but I need to go ASAP once I feel the initial need. I've also got back pain just below my ribs on the right side and DH has told me I look like shit!!
Are these the usual symptoms? Do I need to phone OOH?

Sounds like a UTI. Get yourself to the GP tomorrow. You could have a kidney infection too so I would be tempted to phone OOH.
Take some paracetamol until you see a doc.
Hope you feel better soon x

Thanks, I've phone OOH and got an appointment for 0230 Shock fingers crossed they can give me something as paracetamol just ain't cutting it!

Sounds like it's going onto your kidneys.

MummySparkle · 09/04/2015 23:24

As a suffer of recurrent UTIs since childhood, yes that does sound like one. I feel for you OP. Are you weeing lots each time, or just a little bit? Take some paracetamol and get a hot water bottle if you have one. OOH will be able to give you something, they will want to see a urine sample. If you don't have a specimen bottle I suggest getting there a bit early and asking the receptionist for one so you can give one to the doc when you go in. Have you got someone to look after you? x

cuntyMcCunterson · 09/04/2015 23:41

Just small wees that take a bit of time to get going despite feeling desperate. DH is home and away to his bed!!
I was wondering what to take a sample in was considering a rinsed out water bottle , didn't think to just go early and ask for a pot, thank you!

Yes, ask for a pot. A rinsed out water bottle will be fine for them to use the dip-stick on, but as yours sounds like it's travelled into your kidneys they might want to send off for some cultures and you need a sterile pot for that. Is your DH driving you to the appt? I really wouldn't advise driving with acute UTI symptoms (very very painful & distracting) x

MummySparkle · 09/04/2015 23:45

And yes, small wees do doubd like a uti, especially of they take a while to start. Does it hurt, do they feel burny?

cuntyMcCunterson · 09/04/2015 23:49

Thanks for the info I'm a bit clueless about these things.
He's up at 8 so I'll go myself-he's super grumpy when tired. I don't have too far to go so will be ok. X

That's okay - glad my experiences can be of use, they certainly no fun at the time!

Medication wise they will probably give you either trimethoprim or cefalexin. I think most OOH usually have these in stock. I have a supply of cefalexin at home just in case they start to kick in quite quickly so you'll probably be feeling considerably better in the morning.

I used to time myself going for a wee. If I was feeling the need every 5 mins then I would try my hardest to wait 15 mins, then 30mins the next time and try not to see more than once every half an hour. I have no idea whether ther is any benefit to that, but it helps me for some reason. I get pain right in my bladder and letting it fill up again eased that a bit for me. If you have intense burning when you pee, pouring warm water over your girlie bits can help ease it. A nurse once recommended ice cold water to me - was not nice!

cuntyMcCunterson · 10/04/2015 00:29

If this is a uti/kidney thing it better be my last first and last one!

I'm attempting to stop going every 5mins but it's pretty uncomfortable there will be no wee left by the time my appointment comes round!

Thank you for the tip, I can't imagine ice cold water would be pleasant maybe the nurse was a sadist , I'll keep the warm water tip in mind Incase i need it. Thanks again

Worthwhile visit to OOH, I've been given Trimethoprim and to go to go on Monday with a follow up sample. I've also got a chest infection and a viral cold/flu thing so feeling pretty sorry for myself Hmm
Had to get DH to take me as I felt rotten and was worried about driving even the short distance to the hospital!
Only good thing about this is I get to miss working. Nightshift weekendGrin

Glad that OOH were helpful. How are you feeling this morning? Hope you managed to get some sleep x

passmethewineplease · 10/04/2015 10:49

I had those symptoms and also assumed it was a uti. Mine turned out to be kidney stones though. Hope you managed to get a bit of sleep.

NoBloodyMore · 10/04/2015 10:51

I get recurring UTI & kidney infections, every time I'm shocked by how awful I feel, thankfully the antibiotics do kick in fairly quickly!

cuntyMcCunterson · 10/04/2015 12:09

Thanks folks, feeling a bit better this morning; less achey but still weeing a lot. Had a rotten sleep but having a lazy day so hopefully be able to nap on the sofa.
